Help! Baby's hand skin breaking down - chapped, what can I use?

My 5mo DS has been sucking his hands and with the dry cold weather they are chapping and the skin is starting to break down. I'm looking for something that I can use to soothe and protect his skin that wouldn't be harmful, especially with him putting his hands in his mouth all of the time.

Any ideas/recommendations?

TIA!

Maybe lanolin?

lanolin
coconut oil

A friend at my church cut the fingers off a pair of gloves and placed those on her DS's hands. Before placing the gloves on his hands you could moisturize them.

I second the lanolin, I think it would last longer on the skin than coconut oil would, although any oil from your kitchen would work in a pinch.

Yes! Lanolin! I thought of maybe coconut oil, or olive oil. But Lanolin is perfect! Thanks ladies!
