Who has surprised you with their acting ability?

For me, Queen Latifah, and Dwayne Johnson (you know, the Rock. )

Queen Latifah is just great in everything she's been in lately. I really enjoyed the small role she played where she was the marriage counselor for Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz in "What Happens in Vegas". I was really surprised when she started getting into acting, but I have to say, she's a natural.

And Dwayne Johnson. That was a surprise too. But I really liked his role in "Get Smart". He was hilarious even when he didn't have a line. Just his facial expressions and timing-- he's great.

I adore Dwayne Johnson. (That's probably a purer sounding term than it is--I actually emit steam when I see him on the screen. *pant, pant*) I love that eyebrow raise he has!

I think he's unlikely in a different way than you mean, but my first thought was Steve Buscemi. He's so...unusual looking, and yet he's got a really huge range.

I agree about Steve Buscemi. I think he is . . um, yes, unusual looking . . . but kind of in an adorable way, really. I know that's weird. And yes, he's a really good actor.

Kiera Knightly (sp?)

I totally didn't like her. Thought she was annoying. But she has really earned my respect as an actress. Her and Anne Hathaway.

Oh and Justin Timberlake! He's so funny. Didn't see that coming.

I didn't expect Mandy Moore to be any good, since I thought of her as a singer first, but she held her own across from Diane Keeton.

Also, Beyonce.

My students tease me because I can do "The Rock" eyebrow thing.. really well.. and often.. especially when they are being annoying..
