Vax? travel to caribbean

We are taking our EBF 6.5mo unvaxed son on a cruise to the caribbean in late Feb.

Would any of you consider vaxing? And for what?

DH is concerned about germs on the ship with that many people & then who knows what can be picked up on the islands.

We have an appt with our ped on Jan 7. I'll be interested to see what he has to say since he is OK with no vax until at least 15mo if breast fed.

I wouldn't vax for a cruise or a trip to the caribbean. Vaccines aren't going to keep you from getting Norovirus, or a stomach bug from drinking bad water.

We've been to the islands numerous times and no problems. And neither DH or I are up to date on our vaccines. What exactly are you worried about contracting?

If you're really worried about getting sick, stay away from local water or mixed drinks that use local water to make ice.

I don't see how you're any more at risk in the Bahama's and on a cruise than you are if you take your son to the mall or airport for domestic travel.

you'll be fine.

My mother was born in the Caribbean and still lives there. She doesn't get shots and has never gotten sick with any VPDs. She doesn't buy bottled water either. Perhaps risk depends on the country itself, but she does fine in a third world country, so it doesn't seem that scary in the end.

The big risk on cruises is "norovirus" ... and there is no vaccine.

No vaxing needed, IMO. Have fun!
