Easy draft blockers?

Anyone made these? I'm looking for easy ideas. I was thinking about making rectangles stuffed with wool and rice, then washable pillowcases for them. But this seems like a lot of work, especially since I'll first have to wash some of the raw wool that's been stinking up our shed (and, more recently, our scarecrow) for months.

My mom always (and I've done it once) made these by buying I think it was 1/8th of a yard of fabric then sewing it into a tube with one end closed up before filling it with sand. Close up the open end and you've got your draft blocker.

I use fabric/rice - make a tube.

Draft blockers are liable to get wet, so stuffing them with food is not the best of ideas. Probably the cheapest thing to stuff it with would be sand or a mixture of sand and pea gravel. They're really not a whole lot of work, even making pillowcases for them. What I did with mine was take a 45 inch wide fabric and fold it in half and stitch it so it was about 22 inches long. Then with the pillowcase I just do the same thing, but leave the selvedges intact and it doesn't even need hemming.

Thanks everyone. That really doesn't sound hard, but I need to be led by the hand with new crafts.

Cristeen, I hadn't thought about getting wet!

Jyotsna, Your blog is beautiful!
