Ghost Story / Straub * spoiler wanted

So... I got this book, and oh so excited to read it, but it sits on my shelf month after month, and I never can get to it. Alas! Our power is out due to the ice storm that rips up the wires for 1.25 million people, and I finally(!) pick up Ghost Story, cuddle up under the blanket (since the temperatures in the house without electricity dropped to 44F) and start reading.... WRONG MOVE!

So. I'm all kinds of freaked out, and am afraid of my own shadow. I made it half way through the book, and I can't go on. It's too creepy, scary, spooky, icky (you get the idea) and all I want now is to know how it ends without actually having to read it.

Pathetic! So... please tell me what happens in the second half of the book so I can put this story to rest, and start going to bed with my lights off.

I've read it. It's a good read, but I am not telling you!

I WILL tell you, though, that the movie, which is based on the book, is also very good and although different, still very well done!

Enjoy the book and just sleep with your flashlight.

I can't, I won't! I gave up... I'm too scared...

I am picturing a young boy without eyes sitting on the stairs. I am NOT picking that book up again.

Please tell me? I know I brought this onto myself... and you really shouldn't have told me about the movie...

Sorry I am so late getting back to this thread.

Did you finish it?

You could read it during the daytime.

The movie is very well done, though different from the book. Scary. I won't watch it alone and I LOVE scary movies!

I'd just hate to ruin a good book/movie for you...it's like a journey you take...and if I tell you now, it will ruin the suspense and the buildup and then the ending.

Oh, it's been years since I last read Ghost Story. I might have to pick it up when I'm done with the one I'm currently reading.

Sorry, I can't help you with the spoiler. All I remember from it is being freaked out by the woman in the snowstorm at the window (or something like that).

Great. Now I won't be able to sleep. :

I didn't finish it.
So I'm still open for spoilers.

P.S. I think I know the window you are talking about. Although the woman in the snowstorm was in the middle of the road.

I'm about 60 pages from the end now. I picked it up last night. The scene I meant was with Fenny Bates in the Scales' farm house window during a Christmas Eve snowstorm. Scary as Hell!

Also, if you're still needing spoilers, Wikipedia has a pretty good synopsis HERE and that might get you through those long dark nights.
