BC after the babe is here

SO my LO is not even here yet and here I am worrying about BC after he is here. He is and extremely welcome surprise, but a surprise nonetheless, and I would like to plan this next time.

My OB said that IUD should not interfere with BFing, even though it is progesterone empregnated. What do you guys think? What has been your experience if any with IUD and exclusive BF?

Thanks

I had the Paragard IUD after DD3 was born. It has copper (and lasts longer than the Mirena). I had it removed after 2 years because I had major problems with it shifting and extreme menstrual cramping/heavy bleeding (typical because of the copper).

I'm not trying to scare anyone, this is just my experience. I wound up with scar tissue from it shifting, and when I got pregnant with DS1 (current pregnancy), I had a small placental abruption because the placenta grew over the scar tissue. Thankfully, it's nothing major. I started EPO which helps soften scar tissues as well as the cervix. The tear healed itself.

Anyway - I breastfed with no problems (well none from the IUD!). I think it's a good option if you are interested in no hormones. I can't use hormonal methods of bc, and I'm allergic to latex!! So we're going with a tubal this time around (but again, this is baby #4 for us!).

HTH - a little bit anyway!
