I am angry, well, very sad at least...

So now Christmas is cancelled!!! WHY? Because BIL's doc told him to get a flu shot and he's been severely sick for the last few weeks. Now his wife is sick too with flu-like symptoms. Hmmm, doesn't the flu shot shed? Oh and my 5 mo pregnant relative was told by her OB that she should get a flu shot since she's at risk you know being pregnant and all. So now she's sick along with her DH.

MIL and FIL believe they've not had the flu because they also got their shots...for the past 7/8 yrs. But when I suggest that they possibly wouldn't have had the flu anyhow, I just get the cold shoulder and told well we're getting the flu shot.

How in the world do you get people to stop and THINK about these things? I mean whether or not it's even necessary. So many of my relatives won't even acknowledge that there's another side to every issue. That not everything is as it seems on the surface. That we need to check things out as good consumers.

Oh well, I guess my family has to be satisfied with being the only "crunchy" ones. The one thing I will do is give a copy of Mothering to my one relative when she has her baby shower. Hoping she at least takes a look at the arguments for so many of the hot issues ie: circ, vax, formula, etc. :

I'm just really sad about all of this because I just want to help them to be healthy.

It's the flu mist that sheds, it's live virus. The actual shot is killed I believe.
Regardless, that sucks!

Thanks, I really didn't know that about the shot. I guess I'll have to humble myself and admit I made a mistake when spouting off about shedding oh well..

The shot doesn't shed, that's true, but we don't know what it does to the immune system. Certainly doesn't strengthen it. A body has to set out to get rid of anything that is injected, and get back to normal health. That's the law of nature.

Here is something you ought to read and maybe pass on to your family -

My whole family got the flu shot months ago and we have not been sick since. My company of over 200 people all got flu shots (minus a few people) and there were no increased work absences in the weeks following. There is a lot going around this time of year. The flu shot is a dead virus and does not cause the flu or shed. The most likely scenario is that your family picked up a bug somewhere. It happens.

I have never had a flu shot (to my knowledge) and only get the flu once every 5 yrs or so. If even that. Also, when I was prego 5 yrs ago I was advised not to get it, now 2 yrs ago, get it. WTH?????
We never get the shot and we have gotten sick 1 time in I don't know how many years (with the stomach flu that the shot doesn't even protect against).
My family and dh's on the other hand gets the shots and they all get sick every single time.

The flu shot is pretty much useless most of the time, so there is no way I'd subject my family to it.

And, my understanding of the flu shot (correct me if wrong) is that it DOES NOT cover the stomach virus. Its for respiratory illness only. So anyone that gets the flu shot can still get the stomach virus. Doesn't mean the shot isn't working.

The pharmaceutical corporations are not into health and healting, they are into selling their products to anyone. They are a business just like any other business. There is absolutely nothing noble about them. Don't ever be fooled.

Exactly! Plus they can still get a respiratory infection. The flu shot only protects against the viruses that are in the needle. For the last few years their guessed totally wrong and the virus that they injected as protections was not the one causing the flu.

It is pretty much most of the time totally worthless. At best it works 40% of the time. That means 60% of the time is absolutely positively does nothing.

I'll take my chances without it. I have a 50 / 50 chance.

I have never in my life had a flu shot. And I never will!

That's only half true, the shot does cause the exact same symptoms as the illness as documented on the package insert and hundreds of anecdotes.

Exactly. And it still sux, even if they are just "flu-like symptoms", not to mention all the other crap in the shot. (((shudder)))

Yes, a pp corrected me on the fact that the flu shot doesn't shed, however, flu mist does apparently shed. I don't think BIL has the actual flu, more likely a severe reaction from the flu shot itself. It's possible that SIL does has your everyday variety of "bug" however it may be the flu. Even if it was "the flu" I'd rather take my chances on my own immune system being able to fight it off rather than subject my body to something with toxic chemicals that may not even work to fight the current flu strain going around.

You didn't get it, right? Correct me if I'm wrong someone, but doesn't the current flu shot still have thimerosol in it? And we're giving it to pregnant women :

the flu shot is the one that confuses me soo much...but i guess its b/c its a really big $$ maker....i mean, if you can sell it to everyone every year, then you have to say its really really necessary.

thats the one (during pregnancy) that really got me thinking about vaccinations. why would they want to inject me with viruses while pregnant??? ewwww!!!

I would question that too if pregnant. This is what seriously infuriates me about what my young, pregnant relative did. Rather than say, "ok, let me do some thinking on it and discuss with my DH," it seems that she just went ahead and did it : It also really bothers me that several other people and friends in the family are chiropractors or naturopaths and she didn't even bother to ask their opinion on such an issue.

Also it seems every where you go from schools, grocery stores, to community centers the flu shot is being offered. I've even seen someflu drug companies offer incentives to Parent Teacher Oganizations for the more parents they get to take the shot. :

Why would you ask a chiropractor or naturopath about vaccination? Neither is qualified to offer valid information on this topic.

I work at a big box store and alot of my coworkers got the shot when they offered it. Some got it for free, but those without insurance paid about $20. I told one of them about the thermosol in it and he still got it and JOKED about the mercury now coursing through his veins. I didn't get it, woudln't get it had it been free (I didn't get Gardisel when i could have for free, now I'm VERY happy i didn't, thanks yall )
