Oh, wow, I need to have my dh make me something like that....

Hey, mama!! That is so great!! Thanks for sharing the pics, I shared them w/dh & gave him ideas.

It really is lovely - he is quite handy!! I agree with pp - the wood is beautiful. I think I might just rub it with tung oil or a light urathane to protect it and let it shine as is! What a guy!! You're very lucky!!

Thanks again everyone. My husband has been eating up the compliments. He really deserves them. I have painted it. White. I just bought a stool for it today, finally. I'll post pictures after it's all organized and done.

It's so much nicer than the PB one. Like 100 x nicer!

I'm going to *hint* this at my husband too.

It looks way better than the PB one. I wish my dh would make me something so beautiful. How awesome that it was a surprise too. He did a great job.

that is fabulous! i came here to find a pattern for a wooden bookstand, but now i think i may make one of those too! i have discovered that making stuff from scratch is easier, cheaper and way more fun! if he has a pattern, or even a vague idea of how he made it..will you share? i really need some shelves like that for my sons bedroom and my livingroom!

Ooooooh, Marc wants the dimensions so he can make me one! :
Can you convince your DH to put up a tutorial of sorts for those of us who want to try making one?

Very, very nice job takebirthback's DH!

I asked him but he didn't seem to know what to say about how he did it. He said he followed the demensions from the Pottery barn one. I copied them for you here:

Overall: 55" wide x 38" deep x 37" high
Tabletop: 55" wide x 38" deep x 6" high
3 x 3 Bookcase: 36" wide x 12" deep x 36" high

There are 9 bookshelves.

He just put it together with all those dimensions. Are there specific questions I can ask him? If you have some let me know and I'll try to get him on here to answer them. He's weird about forums though. Or he thinks I'm weird for posting on them so much..LOL So we'll see if I can get him on here. He has been loving the compliments though, so that is helping y'alls cause. LOL

I just finally got mine painted white and am about to set it up with some of my stuff. I'll take pics and come back with them.

I want one so bad!

This is the desk I wanted. I was close to purchasing it from Pottery Barn, but couldn't bring myself to spending that much.

My husband said he would try to make one for me a couple of months ago. No luck yet.

I'm so jealous. Great job!

Well my husband said he built mine for less then $200. So he says he's saved us $800! LOL
I really don't think it was that difficult to make. He made it in a few days.
I hope everyone that wants one gets one!

You're not weird. I was going to come in and ask for plans too.

I think we'll build them with just 2 rows of cubbyholes as desks for the kids' rooms. We were going to order some furniture but I keep looking at this and I think we're going to build instead. It will be cheaper and better quality than what I was going to get, plus they can paint them when we paint their rooms.

And then maybe, if I'm lucky, next year I can get one built for me.

I bet if your dh makes a couple of these next year before Christmas and advertises them or takes them to a flea market they'll sell in no time.
