I am so in on this!! We have needed to declutter for a long time and now I have a few pressing reasons to do so (baby coming and a couple of family members might be moving in with us for a little while)...

I am going to aim for 500....I think I will have no problem getting there!

so far 0/500...I will start tomorrow after work!

Meanwhile, DH quickly scanned his hanging clothes and did a THOROUGH purge of his areas in the family office a couple months ago and is doing a "quickie" (LOL) again as I type.

I have been mostly helping DD, or rather I've been cleaning up after the little tornado! LOL In between her decluttering, I have managed to go through all the family linens and all of our "product documentation" (paperwork - warranties, care & use instructions, etc. - on items we own). I also went through our fire-resistant box and sorted out the important papers that have piled up since the last time I did it (almost a year ago). This all on top of the major overhaul of our storage closet, including Christmas decor, that I previously mentioned.

The net result of all this, thus far, is a HUGE MESS on our master bedroom floor!!! I'm not counting, but I will take and share a picture of the massive pile that leaves our house on Friday, January 2!

The other day I quickly tidied up the hall closet. I do not recall if we donated anything from there, but I doubt it. It wasn't too bad, as you can see from the above pictures (in the link).

Yesterday, we went through the living room cabinets with all the games and puzzles (2 cabinets in the entertainment center for a total of 4 shelves). DD has outgrown most of the little kid versions of board games and we are now able to play the original versions that we already owned. We have changed tastes and pasttimes since becoming parents and were able to let go of many games we have not played with in years! This was a major release of stuff and really freed up these spaces so that we can now see everything inside both cabinets and DD can take out and put away games and puzzles easily on her own. They are super organized, too...one shelf for all puzzles, one shelf for all non-board-games (cards, twister, bingo, yahtzee, etc) in one cabinet...and all the board games now fit in the other cabinet on those two shelves. DH & DD pulled everything out and sorted into keep and donate piles. I had veto power (with discussion... LOL) as I neatly put it all away.

We also did the office cabinet yesterday. That was quite a challenge all by itself. I remembered to take pictures, so that is documented on the Flickr link above. I started my desk drawer, too, but didn't quite finish. It is still 2/3rds empty, but the part that does have stuff in it sure looks pretty. LOL

The last picture on the link in the closet set is the pile of stuff we tried to donate today. It filled the trunk of our car! Unfortunately (or is it fortunate in the long run... thinking past our current predicament?), the first, second, and YES third charities we went to today to donate all these items were FULL!!! Not one of them could accept any donations right now because they were packed full...every truck on the premises and the hallways and store rooms were overflowing. WOW!!! I'll call first tomorrow. I've never encountered this before...

When we dropped off our stuff yesterday they also had a ton of stuff, I think new years inspires people to clean there houses

almost didn't do any today but then i'd never make it to 500 so i got my act together and did 77! and i still have so much stuff! though it is getting harder as i'm working through my project areas...

I'm up at about 300.

I did a major purge/reorganization of our kid and adult craft supplies. Let go of some nice craft kits, esp for crossstitch and embroidery that I will never get to. My eyesight isn't getting any better. Knitting and crochet make more sense for me. Also realized that I will never scrapbook and that is ok. I don't need three bins of scrapbooks and supplies.

Cleared out 2 walls of my freezer room for pantry/kitchen storage space to take the burden off my tiny kitchen.

I am not ready to get rid of the breadmaker, juicer or ice cream maker....but they get stored for months at a time. Not much call for bread baking in the summer or ice cream in the winter. The juicer and dehydrator mostly get used for garden overflow in the fall...Don't know if I'd replace any of these if they died on me, but don't want to declutter them now knowing that I would use them in future.

I had 4 pieces of furniture I was planning to get rid of and ended up only getting rid of 1, but rearranged my spaces to make use of the others.

Next big challenges-- kitchen cupboards, office (again, because I have to organize specialty papers that got decluttered from the craft area into a filing cabinet), toy storage closet. And the toyshelves and bins, again, though I did those before Christmas.

And then my family's clothing....got a long way to go. 1000 isn't going to be a problem, I don't think.

Tidied away Christmas today and did more decluttering, DH tidied all his random computer wires away into proper lidded plastic crates, so I could collapse the grotty old falling-apart boxes! Hurrah!

I have a goodwill truck coming to pick up a bunch of stuff on Thursday! I can't wait to reclaim some space! I've then told dh that he has boxes to go through and get rid of. He seems to keep all the boxes from practically everything JIC we were going to move. I told him that obviously we won't be moving for a while. I think we are pretty settled where we are!

I may not count the stuff, but I do have pictures I may try and upload later!

Threw out some ratty dress-up wigs and set aside some items for donation -- 8 items, 308/1000.

Today, I'm going back in to the dress-up purge. I do NOT need the equivalent of 4 garbage bags of dress-up stuff for my children. No matter how cute my 2 yr old looks in every single item....
