Please help ~ Boy/Girl combined theme Bday Party ~ 2yo/4yo

Hi all!

I'm at a total loss!!! I don't want to go crazy or anything but I want to have a focus if ya know what I mean.

Dd turns 4 yo and ds turns 2 yo in two weeks!

Dd asked for princess (puke!) but I was thinking fairy which I can kinda handle more. (You might guess I'm a bit of a tom boy and not into all that PINK stuff). Ds LOVES fire trucks.

So my first thought was to have a "Fairy and Truck Party". Not cuz it makes sense but cuz its what they like.

For the Fairy part I was thinking of getting some tutus (a friend said Marshall's or Toys R us may have some) and leatards (sorry not sure spelling), have baskets out for a treasure hunt, and maybe make head bands with ribbon and flowers.

For the Truck part I was thinking of getting some plastic fire truck hats... not sure what else.

I was also thinking maybe I could hint around to see if she'll go for just animals which would be easier in terms of boy/girl.

I want it to be easy but also give me a focus and be COOL! =)

Please help! I'm tired and confused! The holidays did me in!

i had a unisex princess party when my dd was 3. it was a dress-up party & we went with a renaissance theme. the girls all came as fairy princess of course, lol ....and the boys came as warriors, knights, it really was fun for all fo the kids. we played midieval type games, lots of fun! hth.

Two words: MESSY PARTY.

There can be an art station with pink/glitter stuff and wheels/green for kids to make whatever they like.

There is a thread here in MDC somewhere....We are doing our 2nd Messy Party in a row next month, it's a hit for every age every time.

Thanks for the great ideas!

I *really* love the Messy Party idea!!!! And want to *go* to one. But I'm really not up for the work involved this year. But I will remember it next year (weather permitting).

I'm really hoping I can pull something together that looks like it makes sense in some way and that I can go to 1-3 stores and be done. Or so I hope.

Thanks again!

I don't really do theme parties. I usually just pick a color scheme and leave it at that.

Why have a theme? What ever happened to a bunch of kids just playing and eating cake? Balloons? Noise makers? Frosting in the hair?

They're going to have fun no matter what, especially at that age... don't sweat it!

How about a forest theme. Add in some fairies and some gnomes for the princess feel.
