"Give her the gift of the Polio Vaccine"

Did anyone see this commercial today? The whole first part of it is a man giving a gift to a woman, and you think it's going to be a corny jewelry commercial. And she opens the box and it's a syringe and the voice-over says "Give her the gift... Of the Polio Vaccine"

WTF? I would have been mad if it weren't so absolutely stupid.

How many adults are in the USA today who haven't already received the polio vaccine anyway? Or are they now pushing for "boosters" for adults?

I don't really get it... I mean, granted I wasn't really paying attention until I heard the word "polio" but I can't imagine them springing a whole round of polio for everyone all of a sudden.

I thought that polio was pretty much in every other booster, anyway. I know that they put it in tetanus and dtap now.

They are pushing for childhood vaccine boosters in adults. They want everyone to be their patient. Everyone from cradle to grave. No one is healthy. Every step of your life is a 'condition' that needs their treatment. Healthy children need to be monitored to make sure they don't start to think for themselves, that could hurt them. Better medicate before it's too late.

And people actually believe it. It is the pharmaceutical religion. :

No, I don't think so.
DTaP is diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis

Do you have a source for that? I'd like to see how you came up with that information.

Oh boy! Discussing a serious subject with wine mixed in. That can bring on the tears. Be careful!

Happy holidays.

I know I'm not liquored up, and as much as this is a serious topic, I was practically rolling on the floor the whole time. You guys are too much.

Yeah, I don't usually come to this forum, and it's because I say the slightest thing and get jumped on. I knew what I meant! What, you can't read my drunken mind???

I don't get it either. Give whom a polio vaccine? Surely not Western people. I was thinking it was to sponsor kids in third world countries or something.

For a minute I thought they were saying give them to kids in third world countries, but she was HOLDING the syringe! I doubt she was going to go to africa and vaccinate them herself.

Nope! dh just saw the commercial. He said a guy is giving his gf a box and when she opens it she find a needle inside. Then some voice says he is giving her the 'gift of love', the polio vaccine. (At least that's how he perceived it.)

Talk about pushing drugs. What kind of image is that sending to kids out there. Pushing drugs on TV...totally out in the open.

You guys just talked me into it - I poured myself a glass of wine.

Cheers!

Yeah, because nothing says "I love you" like jamming a needle into an unsuspecting loved one...

Here it is, ladies: http://www.changingthepresent.org/change

It's not a pharmamercial after all, at least not directly. Changing the Present is an alternative gift giving program. So you donate money to some group for a polio vaccine instead of giving somebody a Christmas gift. I guess it's suppose to be charitable. I'm trying to imagine my own Mr. Romance giving me that for Christmas . . . .

No, but I think it was symbolic of vaccinating those children abroad.

At present, the pro-vax camp isn't recommending the polio vax for adults.

Quote:
In the United States, routine vaccination of persons 18 years of age and older against polio is not recommended because most adults are already immune and also have little risk of being exposed to wild polio virus.

I saw a comment somewhere recently, I don't remember where. It was about how there are so many pharma drug commercials on TV, in magazine print, etc. in the U.S. but when you go to other countries it's not like that at all. Just goes to show you how much influence and $$ big pharma has.

Commercial is one of the reasons we do not have cable TV. Our kids only watch about 30 min a day of movies that we buy for them

This is true. I have never ever seen an advert for a vaccine on the TV here. They do advertise things like cold meds but that's about it.
