Are there any other magazines like Mothering?

I'm getting my wish list ready for when we get our tax check (in about a month! Woo hoo!) and I have a list of magazines that I want to subscribe to. Mothering is at the top. Are there any other mags you guys read that I should look into?

I've heard about ?Compleat Mother...it's supposed to be very radical. I've never read it. I find that Mothering is "out there" enough for me for the time being. I don't think there are any others.

you probably wouldn't like compleat mother then. It's mainly birth and breastfeeding stories.

I'm confused - you want recs for other magazines that cover the exact same topics as Mothering? Or recommendations for other types of mags that Mothering readers enjoy?

This one is probably pretty darn close although it's local to my area, not national:

"New Beginnings," the magazine put out by LLL covers BFing and other AP type of parenting issues. If you get the LLL membership, you automatically get New Beginnings.

I LOVE Brain, Child magazine. It's not a parenting magazine, more like a semi-literary mag for parents. It's not devoted to natural/AP living, but explores many perspectives. I find it's one of the few pubs out there that's devoted to parenting w/o a primary focus on the early years of parenting. My kids are 15, 13, 11, and 6, so it's nice to read a mag with a broader perspective.

Ditto about Brain, Child.
There's a magazine called Kiwi that focuses on natural/organic living with children.

It really just depends on what aspects of Mothering that you're into, I guess. There's one called E: The Environmental Magazine that I find to be somewhat hit-or-miss with their articles. I love Utne Reader, Ode, and Good Magazine-- they all focus on similar topics like sustainability, global issues, environmentalism (not typical preachy poopoo, though), etc.

Others to look into: AdBusters, Mother Jones, Mother Earth News, DIY Magazine, uhh... I'm sure I can come up with more if these sound interesting to you. Let me know if you'd like some links, but these should all Google well.

Orion magazine is beautiful and thought provoking (addresses human/environmental interaction).

I LOVE Mother Earth News.

I also love Mother Earth News and Brain, Child. There are also smaller underground "zines" like the Hausfrau that is a hysterical account of a mom living in Portland, ME>

If you're one of the liberal crunchy mama mothering readers, you might like "hip mama" Sort of the magazine for all of us who are/were radicals or counter-culture and are kinda going WTF how did I end up in the PTA?

I really like Brain, Child. It operates off the basic assumption that I'm intelligent.
