How is the mass transit there? We are going for Mardi Gras and will either be staying on St. Charles or a condo in the French Quarter. (we have reservations at The Intercontinental but I would rather stay elsewhere so DH is looking at condos for rent.)

Anyway.. will we be able to get around on mass transit or will we have to rent a car? I know there is a street car, what areas does it cover?

The street car goes from the French Quarter through Uptown and down Carrolton Street (I'm not sure if that stretch is open yet though). It should get you everywhere you need to go. And taxis are great there and way easier than navigating Mardi Gras traffic yourself. United cab rocks.

I'm pretty sure many of the parades go right in front of the Intercontinental. You might reconsider changing your reservations - that's prime property during Mardi Gras!
I think you'll find the streetcar and cabs your best bet, too.
