Cross posted in Vbac.

I live in the Fox Valley area of Illinois near Geneva. I have called a few ob's and none do vbac's. Does anyone know why? I am also looking for recomendations for anyone who does them. I tried joining the Ican group for this area and I have not heard anything and it has been a few days.

Thanks.

I know we've got at least two vbac-willing OBs... but we're down in Peoria. I just looked up where Geneva is... there's GOTTA be someone!!

Have you called Suburban Woman's Health in Elgin? They were still doing VBAC's two or three years ago (not sure if they still are).

Otherwise you may need to look closer to Chicago. There is a hospital in Oak Park that is very crunchy (does waterbirth, etc...) so I might also call there and ask which OB's do VBAC.

Dr. Randy Zimmerman in Barrington does them, I think. You can call there. He's out of Good Shepherd in Barrington and I think Alexian Bros. In Hoffman Estates.

Call the office to find out. They have a couple of great NP's there, too. Hanna is awesome. Every time I run into someone who also went to Dr. Z., they just rave about him. I ended up with a repeat C section, but he did talk to me a lot about VBAC. Good thing I went to C-section route because my ds born in October last year was 10 lbs!

These are a little north of you, but Dr. Gladdin and Dr. Ray from Comprehensive Women's Center do vbac's at St. Alexius Bros in Hoffman Estates, and Midwest OB/Gyn and Midwifery do vbac's at Alexian Bros in Elk Grove Village. There are other ob's who do them at St. Alexius, as well.

I moved to DeKalb in 2007 & had 2 months to find a VBAC provider here. The options were slim then, and are unfortunately worse now. There are several OBs in the area who will say that they're "VBAC-friendly" but by that they mean that they will "allow a controlled trial of labor (IE hospitalized immediately with constant monitoring & no shower/tub) prior to 40 weeks". I don't know many VBAC mamas who DIDN'T go over 40wks, so that didn't set well for me. I ended up driving in to the midwives at Oak Park (West Suburban). The hospital's after-care was horrid (understaffed), but they allow early discharge. If you go that route, I recommend laboring at the Wright Inn near the hospital & transporting in when you need to (maybe 10 blocks?) - they had an everlasting hot water supply & big tub/shower.

If you are open to the idea of a HBAC, Sarah Simmons (CNM) could help you out. She is out of Chicago, but usually willing to work with you, especially if you are not finding a care provider. If you want her info, PM me.

I recommend not going to Dr. Ray from the Comprehensive Women's Center. From talking to her, she does episiotemies (sp) as a standard. Also, in my experience under her care, I would guess that her primary c-section rate is high and her VBAC rate is low.

I talked to Dr. Zimmerman in Barrington when working on a VBAC. He told me he'd "let" me labor for 12 hours. I chose Kathy Puls out of Evanston (as well as Buffalo Grove now). I think I labored at least 14 hours, maybe 17. If I had chosen him, I would have been a repeat c. Dr. Z also recommends the internal monitor on the baby's scalp.

My opinion.

VBAC at CDH

I am looking for a doctor associated with CDH who does VBAC's. I had a great experience there first time around with post operative care, nurses, etc. , and it is very close to home. But I can't seem to find a good doctor associated with that hospital willing to do VBAC's. Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you.

The Doctors of Homefirst, Chicago, IL, do. Some offices outside Chicago. www.homefirst.com

Unfortunately, last time I checked Homefirst did not do primary VBACs. They may or may be doing any VBACs these days, I don't know.

I have to have a more in-depth conversation with the OB and my midwives, but I saw the midwives at Rush Copley OB/GYN throughout my pregnancy and during labor and ended up with a c-section anyways. They feel that I would be a good candidate for a vbac and the OB that delivered my son felt the same, so I know that they are definitely open to it. Worth a shot to give them a call if that works for your insurance and location. 630-978-4800

I have tried several and I think the main OB practices with CDH all are pretty awful - like scary awful in a few cases. One OB at one of the practices said they were willing to do VBAC;s but I refuse to share her or the practice name since just about every single OB, including her, at the practice has a major flaw IMO.
