Need Input -- Craft Table/Storage/Furniture Ideas

OK crafters, I need some input!

After a lifetime of, "I wish I could do this, that, and the other thing... but never have time" I am getting rid of my TV and replacing it with a sewing machine!

I'm moving into a new place on January 1st and my focus, while setting up my home, is going to be on the things I want to do --crafts, sewing, music--. The computer is also getting the boot; it's going into a seperate room.

I got my inspiration from a friend who does not have television, she is very artistic and in the centre of her living room is a very large drafting table and next to it is a closet that she filled with nothing but her art supplies. I love it.

I need an art/craft table, storage, a sewing table and am wondering if people could share what works for them.

My new place has an open floor plan and I don't want it to look too cluttered. The space isn't that big so I'm looking for furniture that is multi-functional. Most importantly it has to be asthetically pleasing, I don't want my place to look like Santa's workshop! If anyone could share their crafter's must-have's, let me know!

PS - I really liked this idea: http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j5...t/IMG_2326.jpg

Thank you!

well i have to tell you that my husband is sooo very pleased to be an inspiration.
I wanted to tell you that that desk will have wood on the back of the shelves so things don't fall through. Also I plan on having things in jars and baskets and hat boxes so that it's not all out in the open to look to cluttered. I'm hoping it will still look clean and organized as much as possible.
My husband said he'd build you one for the right price. LOL.

I hope you find what you are looking for. I think it's awesome to get rid of the TV.

I would suggest an armoire or adding curtains to the front of a book shelf.Another thing that would work well is a wide(not too high) dresser(something along these lines).A buffet or sideboard would work well too.You can use the top for cutting fabric(and ironing)or crafting and fill the drawers with supplies.

At some point I kept my sewing machine on a table similar to this.I could just unfold it and I was ready to go.This is what is holding my fabric right now.I think you can buy similar cube systems at lots of places.

Good luck! And good for you for committing to the change you want!

takebirthback - I would love one of my own but I'm as broke as can be I've been searching for free/real cheap furniture off Craigslist
I would add baskets as well and fill some with trinkets for my little one to get into.

rere - I like the armoire idea. They look so fancy dancy on the outside but you can fill them with whatever you want on the inside. Did you see the Rachel Ray episode where they turned the inside of armoires into home offices, diaper changing stations, and even a home bar? That would be a fun project I love the cube shelf!!!!! You can find those pretty much anywhere! I've seen them half the height -- I could use that as a room divider. A bookshelf with curtains would look nice too!

Oh I'm getting so excited... keep the ideas coming!
