Legit places to dowload Ebooks

I am getting a kindle :

I am starting to build a library for when it comes in the mail and I was wondering if anyone has some good ebook sites they could direct me to....either free or pay ones.

I noticed that the Kindle store on Amazon does not have some of the titles I would like to get, so I am hoping I can find them elsewhere. (an example is Ursula LeGuin's books)

I just discovered that the public library where I used to live (a very very very large city on the east coast of the US) has an incredible website with downloadable ebooks, audiobooks, videos, etc. All that's necessary is the library card (in good standing, as they say) and a password.


Considering that I now live overseas, and can use my old library card for such things ... well, am just in awe.

for legal free books, try Project Gutenberg. It's all titles that have lapsed out of copyright, so no recent fiction -- but they have every older classic you can think of, and some wonderfully entertaining obscurities as well. They give instructions for transferring book files to a reader (like the Kindle).

Oooh, I bet you can hardly sit still.

I'm not sure when mine will get here. I know it has shipped, but it is coming super saver to Alaska, so it could take time. I'd totally be tracking it, but since it is a gift, I didn't want to nag the in-laws for the number. I'm killing time by refining my book list.

I LOVE it. I am already addicted hehe, my fav thing so far is that a different picture of an author is the screen saver every time it goes into sleep mode..and the first one that popped up was Poe, my fav!
