WAH Ideas?

Thread Starter
I have a 3 year old DD, and am expecting another LO soon. DH got laid off last month, and hasn't found anything yet, although he's been looking. Since I am pregnant, and due very soon, no one will hire me for out of home work. I'm trying to think of something I can do from home, so I can care for our children *and* help us have some income. I don't want to have the baby and go to work outside right away, as I would like to breastfeed, and never had luck with pumping for DD when she was a wee babe.

I'm not very crafty, I could probably sew, but I don't have a machine. There might be *something* I could do crafts-wise, but so far, I haven't found it.

What kind(s) of other opportunities are there for me to be a WAHM without being crafty or having any kind of special education, or are there any? It's really important to DH that I be able to stay home with the children, and unless it's absolutely necessary for me not to, I need to stay home. Thanks!

Actually, I'm working on building a website with just these things. I'm in almost exactly the same pickle as you, with a 2 yo and a lo on the way in Feb-ish.

Right now my site is under construction, but i'll let you know when it's up and running if you'd like. Just email me.

I don't know if ChaCha is accepting new guides, but that is a work-at-home internet based research position.

You might also consider in-home childcare after your baby is born.

Good luck!

If you have any graphics software you can do cafepress.com and even if you don't you can do zazzle.com. It isn't a living unless you have an outside following (like the guy from the church of the flying spaghetti monster,) but it's a start.

I'm due soon too!! My job field is in demand but no one wants to hire me now just to have me take maternity leave.

I'm still looking into it but what about being a transcriptionist? (I don't know if that is the proper word.) I used to do this at my previous job a lot so it is something that is familar to me. From what I have found on the web so far, you get sent a sound file (not sure what the format is) and then you transcribe it and they pay you based on the accuracy and timeliness of getting it done. I think I searched for "transcription services". I have not tried it yet though. I think the pay is more if you have a medical or legal background and can also do the proper formatting.

There are a few of those, as well as the call center type jobs. Some guy has a website at, I think, www.workforgas.com that has a big old list along the left hand side.

ChaCha is not hiring new guides, and I would no longer recommend that route They've really gone downhill over the past 2 months or so.

Have you thought about going back to school? You and/or dh could do that, totally from home- and get grants to pay for it an have some money come back to you. It could be a short-term help, even if just until your dh gets back working.

My dh was getting back $3k a semester between grants and scholarships, plus earning a degree. He's in grad school now, and with loans we're getting back checks for $5k a semester. Granted the loaned portion of that will need to be repaid, but we can really use the money now- and it's not income so we aren't taxed on it. I'm re-enrolling myself, as a matter of fact.

Feel free to pm me if you like.

Hi momma!

I know your situation. There are a lot of things that you can do, some of which you might want to wait until after the baby. There are a whole host of homebased network marketing jobs out there, if you can handle talking to people, and learning a little about how to use facebook and that sort of thing. There is also something I recently discovered, while it doesn't provide immediate income, can provide it eventually and there's no start up, you can do it anytime, it's online and its fun. It's called Squidoo (squidoo.com). A couple moms on there actually make over $1000/month, which is not bad for writing website content.
PM me more specifics about what you're looking for and I'll see what I can come up with for you. I have been researching for a long time, and so i have a lot of info.
