I need help.
My daughter has a really fabulously awesome pair of pajamas that had a significant accident with some cod liver oil. I hit it with the stain-stick as soon as it happened, and washed them in hot water.
The pajamas were a tad stinky when they came out of the dryer. They got more stinky when she put them on, and she smelled like a little codfish after they warmed up to her body temperature. She's cute, but not cute enough to compensate for that.
This morning DH and I started a CLO-elimination campaign on the pj's that hasn't been too successful. We boiled them, with borax, in two changes of water, then put them through another hot wash with detergent and more borax. (We did remove the child first, with difficulty - she loves her pajamas.) Still a bit stinky.
Currently I am boiling them (again) with some vinegar. Dunno how this is going to go, but I am not hopeful.
I REALLY don't want to throw these out. They are great pajamas, they still fit her, she loves them, they were a gift, etc. etc. Fortunately they are very sturdy cotton so will not suffer too much from the cleaning abuse.
So, what's next? Lye? (I have wood ashes. I could do it. How do you make lye again?)
