Help! Contrast Die and told not to Breastfeed

Thread Starter
I went for an MRI this morning and had NO idea I had to have the contrast dye but in the end it had to be done.
They told me I can't nurse for 48 hours. This is killing me because I have really low supply due to IGT and have worked so hard for the milk I get (about 18-20oz a day) and I can't imagine throwing it down the drain. Also my DS really likes to nurse even though he takes bottles. At 5 weeks old how can I refuse the breast to him.

Does anyone have any resources for this? I know that Hale lists Gadolinium (the dye I got) as L2.

Anyone get this dye and still nurse their LO?

I am an x-ray tech. From what I rememeber in school, gad should be fine. I do know that it is not radioactive in the least and doesn't stick around very long either. If you are really concerend, give it 6 hours from the injection just to be sure it is out of your system, but even that may be excessive. Hope the MRI turns out well!

I just wanted to say I LOVE seeing threads like this, where mom has gotten misinformation and finds out she CAN in fact breastfeed.

I love them too.
Hey OP, please be sure to send the radiologist some evidence-based information so he/she doesn't keep giving this bad, bad advice.
Glad you can BF!
