"Retract" remaining foreskin after circ or no? (Info for a friend)

I hope this is okay, but I need help from intactivist moms. A friend who circed her son is now being told to retract the foreskin that is left. I don't think that is right but I need confirmation of that and I need some official-looking links for her.

I can't seem to find anything in the archives.

Can you remove the OT from the title? And the part about TCAC on moderation? Or am I able to edit the title myself? I can't figure out how to do that.

Thanks!

This post has all the info she will need to demonstrate that studies show retraction and adhesion breaking is not necessary:

Thank you for the links. I wrote a whole post about this but I guess it's in limbo right now since this forum is on moderation.

Let's just say I am having a lot of difficulty helping this mother right now. All of the sudden she is receptive to my advice when she didn't appear to be before her son was born when I tried to initiate dialogue on not to circ.

And she truly, truly doesn't get it. Even now.

Give her time, she may get it. Unfortunately, too late to save the bodily integrity of this boy but maybe a future child will be spared.

From my own experience, YES, I would retract the remaining foreskin to prevent adhesions. Even adhesions that break naturally on a circed child can be painful, plus, most DRs will not know to NOT break the adhesions (barring any infections etc) and it will just cause pain for everyone (btdt). It would've been easier on us to just retract fully from the beginning than to go through what we went through. The normal adhesions are why babies get referred to urologists and get circed again etc.

I believe the issue can be looked at like this:

forcefully retract:
benefits: no chance of adhesions if performed vigilantly and application of vaseline or the like esp in early months
risks/non benefits:
-You need to constantly do this, which leads to constant penal manipulation. YOu will need to retract even past infancy- adhesions can even still form into the second year or life and beyond. That is a lot of penis manipulation.
-if you are not diligent, you still get adhesions and all the penis manipulation you are doing was just a big waste of time
-can be painful and cause infection and bleeding

Leave it alone:
Benefits:
- studies show that most will break on their own, even on children who have been circumcised. (see my posted link above)
-no penis manipulation involved
-no pain
-ones that do not break on their own can be done at a doctor's office with pain relief

Risks:
-small possibility of ones not breaking on own (again, see link in post above) these need to be broken in doc office with pain relief
- need to be diligent about doctors not retracting
- if there is an adhesion that does not release on its own and you do not have a doctor do it with pain relief, then you might end up with a skin bridge. (this is also a risk, IMO, either way since if you do forcefully retract but are not diligent through the months and possibly years, then you can end up with the same problem.)

Adhesions involving the circumcision line, however, should be done in a doctor's office with pain relief as they can be problematic. (again, see link above)
