Prenatals Make Me Sick

Every time I take my prenatals they make me sick. I thought it was morning sickness but I today I waited until 3 pm to take my vitamin and I was fine until I took it and then within 15 min I thought I was gonna puke. Now the funny thing is before I was pregnant I could take them with no problem. Can anyone help me?

Take at night with a small glass of milk.

Hi, I'm not in your DDC, but my sister had the same problem as you and found out that it's often the iron that makes you sick. I think it's possible to get iron-free prenatals, then try to ensure you get iron from other sources if needed.

Also try a different brand. I like the Rainbow Light Once Daily.

It's very common to have a sensitve tummy in regard to prenatals, when pregnant.

I would definitely experiment with brands and times taking them. If you don't have any luck, I would stop taking them.

My pharmacist recommended taking a multivitamin without iron and taking extra folic acid. I am gonna try that tomorrow and hope it works.

I used premesis with my last pregnancy too but unfortatley when I tried to get it here where i live none of the pharmacies had the generic and my insurance would not pay for the name brand. I am also REALLY constipated and I think its the iron. I am going to start the vitamins without iron today. Boy I feel like a drug addict...I take B-Complex, Multivitamin, Extra Calcium(because I am nursing and pregnant),and Extra Folic Acid (to bring it up to 1 mg). Geeesshhhh!!!

I have that problem even when I'm not pregnant and I've found that the following have helped me:
1/ Cutting the vitamin in half
2/ Always taking it with a meal
3/ Using a supplement that has no iron and instead getting my iron from a liquid supplement called Spatone (http://www.spatone.com/faq.aspx) which is iron-infused water. Very bioavailable and easy on my stomach.

The prenatals that I chose are ones that you have to take five a day of. I figured that spreading the dosages out was a good idea for me considering my history. I chose "Baby Me Now" but there were several others like it available.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

Last night I took my multi with dinner and then took the extra folic acid I needed about an hour later and I didn't get sick. I did not end up taking the extra calcium or B complex. I am trying to figure out which one makes me sick. Well hope everyone has a Happy New Year!!

I have the same problem. The only 2 times I acutally got sick were right after I took my prenatal. I haven't taken it in a few days and I haven't gotten sick. I think I'm going to try a different type.

My prenatals in the past also made me sick. I used Flintstones Chewables last pregnancy. I had to supplement them with more Folic Acid because they don't contain enough. Right not I am using the CVS brand of nursing, pregnancy vitamins. The vitamins I get by prescription seem to be much harsher on my stomach.

I take precare chewables. Otherwise not even pregnant I would gag and feel sick on them. I take a separate iron. And a fiber pill. ;-)

The precares are prescription, but well worth it for me.

With my first pregnancy I took a flintstones I think.
