making tha hanging part of a hanging basket?

I have a few herbs in pots I'd like to hang by a window, but I'm not sure how to make one of those hanging things. I usually see them made out of a cord of sorts - is there any way to sew a simple holder? It doesn't need to be fancy, just functional. on the other hand, are those cord ones easy enough to make? Are there directions online somewhere and what type of cord is it?

They are made using a technique called macrame. I haven't done it (except those friendship bracelets), but my parents were hippies in the 70's and made lots of funky stuff. I guess it is just knotting. The library or craft store should have instruction books (or the internet, for that matter).

Thanks, i found directions and made a simple on in about 5 minutes today with some twine I had. Can't wait to make more for the rest of my pots! :-)
