Well the moment has arrived...

On Christmas I found out my SIL is pregnant agian! She has a girl already and is overall pretty mainstream. When I had DS she asked me if I would circ him and I just said "Oh no!" in an 'of course not' tone. We have not talked about it since and she doesn't really know my involvement in the intactivist movement. We live very far from each other and don't really talk often. Now I have my work cut out for me. I hope I can make the case. Secretly, I hope for a girl but I won't wait until the u/s to start talking to them.

On a better note... I handed out a few brochures (thanks nightnurse!) during my vacation and I've had a pretty positive feedback.

There's your opening...during a conversation tell her what you've been up to and all you've learned. Make it more about excitement on your end and how you've found your new passion instead of too preachy towards her. She'll pick up on your excitement and hopefully will come to you with more questions. Good luck!

The first time a friend said something to me about not circ'ing I was taken aback--I never considered not. Well, I googled "circumcision" and couldn't find anything pro and a lot of disturbing videos and articles.

So that's what I do--encourage people to google. Don't be discouraged if she initially resists. Encourage her to learn for herself the facts. If this custom is going it end, it's going to be because of the mamas.

All you can do is try to educate her. I am gently trying my best with a friend of mine. She is nearing her due-date and I am trying trying gently trying with her. I think even if we fail, at least we are trying!
