So I see off of the current couch thread going that people are recommending the use of a leather conditioner...

We have a very nice leather recliner, new it cost about $1350, but we bought it in a storage auction unit for $275 plus got a ton of other nice stuff in the unit auction.

Anyways, I've never had leather before, so not really certain what I should be doing to care for it. We've had a few mishaps thus far, a little water and a rag I've been able to fix the issues, but really want to care for it properly.

So what should I buy to care for this chair? I've honestly not looked much in the store to determine what my options are. Can I buy something at like an Ace Hardware or Home Depot? Or do I need to find a store that sells leather furniture and buy something they recommend?

If it makes any difference the chair is a tawny golden brown, not like a blond, but also not dark brown.

I know no oils, but aside from that not certain what I should be doing to this chair to keep it looking good for the next 10 years..

Help please!

I know I have seen leather cleaners/conditioners in the super market but I do not know much about brands. I have horses so I always have tons of leather cleaner and conditioners on hand for my saddle & other tack. One of my favorites is actually packaged differently depending on who the market is for but the product inside is the same. Leather amore from Bee Natural Leathercare.

I tend to only clean/condition leather furniture as needed which is not often. Maybe once a year or when something spills. My car has leather seats and I try and clean/condition that more often. Maybe once every couple of months.

you should be able to find leather treatment spray at most places... I've seen it at the grocery store in the auto section. From what I can tell, you spray it on the leather and rub it in every once in a while or use it to clean stuff off. We've had leather couches for about 5 yrs and I honestly haven't ever done it. DH did a few times after we first bought them and I've seen him do it with the leather seats in the car. Those tend to need treatment more often because of the sun beating down on them, or having car seats installed.

Not sure which kind/brand to recommend, though.
