Homebirth Midwife Costs

Hey All,
I am wondering what people have paid for their homebirth in the islands?

Thanks,

we paid about 1K but our midwife has a sliding scale as well so that money isn't the reason that folks can't/won't birth at home.
that price covered all pre-natal, birth and post-natal.
it was a lot cheaper than health insurance :-)

We paid $2500 for our homebirth on Oahu, and it was worth every penny!!! That included all the prenatal, birth, and postnatal care for 3 years.

I paid 2,200 both times I gave birth. But it was worth every penny. I had great midwives.

Can anyone tell me where they found their midwife? Online, through a group? I am thinking about moving to Oahu before my husband gets back from Iraq, but I am terrified I won't have access to a midwife.

Any information would be most appreciated!

I don't know what the regular price is. I had midwives for my prenatal care and they did not charge me because I was unable to pay. I realize you can probably pay, just letting you know that there are midwives out there who will work with you and what you can afford.

I found mine through my Doula, Tammy Uva. If you are considering a homebirth definitely hire her!! She is AMAZING and her hubby is in the military so she knows how to jump through all the hoops. My midwife was Dr. Lori Kimata, from Sacred Healing Arts. She has an office in Honolulu and the North Shore. If you have any questions, just ask!

This site could help you find a midwife. http://www.midwiveshawaii.com/find.htm

I found my midwife through friends. After I got names I called up the few that were brought up and then set up interviews. I knew before I hung up the phone that I was going to go with the midwife that I picked to be at my first birth. Everything just felt right and she had the most kind voice.

Good luck.
