Does anyone know about Embroidery sewing machines?

I would really like a sewing machine that would do embroidery. My preliminary research shows that a Bernina or Husq. basic embroidery machine would be 1000$ ouch!

Are there other brands you would trust, or is it worth to spend more for one of those?

Is it possible to get them used? If so, where?

There is no way I will get a 1000$ sewing machine in time to embroider darling baby clothes. My children will be grown and out of the house before that happens.

Plus I want a serger too. My husband thinks I have gone off the deep end.

I see this was posted a while back... Can I ask if you ended up getting one and if so what kind? Are you happy with it? I was thinking of the Brother LB6770PRW because it is affordable. I just want something to play around with. For me, it would be a hobby, not a business.
