Today the good will truck came and took away all the stuff I was ready to get rid of. Now I have boxes of various sized kids clothes spread out to go through and separate/organize...

I worked on my bedroom closet yesterday too. I had boxes of the kids books that I went through and have a whole box for the thrift store now! I also organized my recycling and thrift store *pile* better, as I can't get it actually out of the house until the snow melts and I can drive up my switchback driveway. arg. at least it's raining right now.

today I wiped out the fridge. and hope to do a lot more.

It is completely empty right now...
Jan 7 - I had two appointments in the morning/mid-day and then a farewell party to attend in the evening. The party was last-minute and I needed to bring something to share. I looked through our pantry and fridge and freezer and found some drinks (specifically mentioned to me) we have extra of and brought them along. Less stuff in our house and others enjoyed them.

WHAT?!?!

I see no problem with you continuing your challenge. This thread is for support, not judgement (although I'm not sure I saw any).

Vicki, if it makes you feel better, I think your kitchen is repulsive... :nana:

Oh no.If you are referring to what I said then you misunderstood.I was just being silly(well my ugly yellow tiles really are popping off but...).I wasn't trying to say you shouldn't be here.I hope you stay and update with pictures of the progress you make.It will inspire me and give me some ideas for when I can finally do something about my kitchen.

Oh I hope you stay and keep us updated- I think you have a beautiful home and I am living vicariously through you as you are doing all the things I wish I could do to my house (that I don't own)!
I hope it isn't because of my comment. I should have added that I don't think your kitchen looks very bad, but I can see why you'd want to change things up.

I would *so* renovate if I owned my place! All I can do is de-clutter, clean, move things around and maybe paint a room.

I have had several things sent off to goodwill to make more room to take care of other things (in my basement). I have gone through all the stored kids clothes from 12 months-size 7, and put all them in their proper totes and have them stacked neatly on shelves. I have also placed extra kids shoes in a tote, and extra bed sheets in a tote for storing. I have this area of the basement almost completely finished, which is also helping to clear out the living area of the basement! YEAH!

My next goal will be to organize the back storage room and make room for a home photo studio! Of course, this will also involve painting the walls to make it more house like and less dungeon like!

vm9799.. but you can't leave!!! This is a challenge, and I challenge you to not only finish your room BUT also keep us posted with your accomplishments!

I've been sooooo sick this week, the only thing I have decluttered is all the good and bad bacteria in my tummy... beleive me you guys do not want to see pictures! only good thing is I lost 5 pounds of holiday weight...

I'm feeling better and my plan is to spend a powerday cleaning the mess of a house today then working later this evening back down in the basement getting my sewing room in order!

hey everyone. i feel like a total jackass now that i'm reading all your comments :. i guess i read "tone" into the comments that i shouldn't have. and i didn't mean to "post and run" yesterday, but we got some tragic news that the father of one of the students at my kid's school (a very small, close knit private school) was shot and killed. so i was busy helping with that and never made it back on the thread.

i appreciate your kind words. i guess i felt that everyone thought i was being a "drama queen" about my kitchen......and i'm honestly surprised at how decent it looks in the photos! trust me, in person it's a hot mess.

anyway......sorry for any misunderstanding. i will keep everyone posted as we go through the remodel.

Me too!

vm, I see you have the same nasty vermica counter tops that I have...only mine are BRIGHT yellow (http://www.flickr.com/photos/archymo...7608688239541/). Needless to say, I can't wait to cover them with tile this spring or summer! We've already laid new flooring to cover the orange linoleum and used textured wallpaper to cover the red and green stuff that used to be on the west wall. I wish I had the funds for a total remodel, but I think I can almost live with the cabinets if I cover the counters with these tiles (http://www.flickr.com/photos/archymo...7608688239541/).

Good luck with your remodel and please post pics! You know I your house!

PS-When you upgrade to stainless, can I buy your old appliances from you? Mine are positively *ancient*!

So sorry about your tragic news.

Don't feel like a jackass,it's really hard when you don't know someone and can't hear their voice.I really just wanted you to know that you didn't need to feel embarrassed because lots of us have some "hot messes" to deal with.Did I mention that my kitchen also has yellow linoleum that has little burn holes in it?I guess someone along the line didn't believe in ash trays?

Anyway...I'm glad you're going to stay and I can't wait to see your mini remodel.

i am involved in the never ending basement challenge. I swear it multiplies when the lights are off down there.

I haven't really done anything yet with the living room. I feel like I have projects in every room of my house that need a lot of work!

I plan on starting this weekend- I hope to try to move some furniture around and see how everything fits in different locations. I'll be sure to snap some before pics before I start.

kitchen update

things are going super well here.:

i tackled the dreaded bottom cupboard full of all of the random plastic and glass containers ect ect... my sister took what was hers, which was a large portion, since she uses them for meals at work (she is a nurse) all that is left is a smallish cardboard box with sippy cups, a few other kids dishes and a few storage containers, all with lids that fit (am i the only one who ends up with 1000 lids and no containers?)! i also have some jars with lids, but im actually running short!

im storing ALL of our cupboard food in glass jars these days. i like the look and also the re-usability of the containers. im trying to buy only things in bulk paper bags from my Health food store to lessen the trash in our home. some stuff only comes in re-sealable plastic, so i keep those to use again as well..

the cupboards are decluttered of dishes (also mostly my sister taking her things) i was getting so tired of dishes piled up in the dish drainer because there was no room for more cups! ive cleaned up the dish drying area, im giving my sister the dish drying rack, since i have a dishwasher, and i really want to keep that space beside the sink clutter free. i think if its not there to pile up with tsuff, ll keep the dishes put away as soon as they are dry.

we have a dresser for linens and things, as well as a wine drawer, and my *junk* drawer .. that is all organised save for the *junk* one.. im still getting up the nerve. ive taken all of the raggy wash cloths and drying cloths and put them in my cleaning bucket in my laundry room (next on the list of rooms to clean and declutter)

i went through the food stuffs too, some for bird food, which has been around a while, and others i moved into smaller jars. im getting down to the bare minimum which is fun. im trying to think of possibilities for meals with just what we have.

im tackling the fridge today!! :

Im super excited about my wooden work bench. it should be here next week, so after that im really going to have a totally organised and lovely kitchen!
