January room challenge... ideas? - Page 2

A Newbie

Can I join in?? I missed the November Kitchen fun, but that is my worst room. I am headed off now to get started -- inspired by all the photos in the November stickie... Photos to follow.

I'd love to join in on this! When we un-decorate from Christmas (on Dec. 6), I will also declutter and simplfy our livingroom. It needs some help.

I want to join! My messiest room is the utility room. We come in and out the back door in there, so its the dumping ground. Plus, its also the pantry and laundry room. Plus, the cats' food dishes and litter box are in there. Plus the deep freeze and the recyling. Its a big room - and all of it is messy!

okay lets see.. we just moved so everything around here is in shambles! The worst room in the house is my future sewing room, it's going to need alot of work since we piled all the boxes that goes into other rooms in there as a staging area.

My plan will be to remove all the boxes that don't belong (they will go to another room, not planning on actually going through any of those boxes... there IS only 31 days this month and I would like to sleep some of the month!) I will go through all my sewing boxes though. I would like to actually set up my sewing space. I need to paint and build some shelving. Organize all my fabric. Purge some of the stuff I really don't need. I want it to be pretty and functonal! Will post pictures of before later this evening when hubby brings the camera home.

I vote family room. It needs some serious attention. Once the tree is down and the presents away (in just a few more days), I need to completely reorganize it.

So the room challenge is?

Living room OR whatever room you deem is the messiest and could use the most help? That sounds really good to me because
I really want to clean up from Christmas but looking around my living room really doesn't have any storage issues just cosmetic ones, so I may be done with it in this first weekend and then be ready to move onto another room that could really use the help! Yay I'm so excited!:

I've never done this before (decluttering challenge). I've started nesting (not due till April) and have started all over the place. But everywhere could use more work (2 adults,5 kids + 1 otw= always things to declutter).

Any advice or suggestions would be helpful.Or just tell me what to do I've only got till April before I won't be up to it for awhile!

i will be working on 2 rooms as well. my kitchen remodel and my living room.

i think i will be working on my living room first.....as it needs a bit of cleaning and organization from christmas, and i also can't start on my kitchen until my husband starts building some of the furniture for the remodel. so this will keep me busy until then.

I think it's okay to go back through the cycle of rooms since others (including me) have missed out on previous threads plus I'm sure some of the folks/rooms that have already been done could use another challenge.
: I really want to get my bedroom squared away, and that's my personal challenge. Then again, any room that gets picked will be something that needs a LOT of work here. I don't have any rooms that don't need intense help.

I'm open to any rooms, honestly. My living room is currently my tidiest room, since I worked on it in December, but it could still use work.

I'd like to join in! I'm going for the bedroom. It all needs help though <sigh>

So, should we write up an official thread or just continue on with this one (I can PM to have it "stickied")?

I'm thinking it's set that we're doing a "Your Choice" this month?

I'll join!

I'm going to do my living room, since I need to take the tree down and redecorate/tidy. My usual tradition is to take the tree down the weekend after Christmas, so I'll be working on that this weekend. After that, I'd like to change some of my decor around a little. Then there is the wardrobe/coat closet that could use a good tidying again. Aside from that, I've been contemplating a major rearranging of furniture just to change things up. I might try some things out and see if it makes an improvement...but since it's a small space with a lot of windows and doors, my options for rearranging are pretty limited .

for those doing the bedroom, the peter walsh / oprah "clean up your messy house" january challenge is the master bedroom as well.

(may not apply if you cosleep . . . however, we cosleep but still keep all ds2's stuff in ds1's room which they'll someday share full-time!)

My biggest problem right now is figuring out where to start.I was hoping you all would choose for me.

Ok not my messiest room but I'm going to do the living room since I need to put Christmas away and figure out how to fit the new toys.Plus I already got started with the computer table.Maybe this will get me to finally steam the rug.

Okay, I am officially choosing DS's bedroom. The poor guy has a bed (really it's just mattresses on a frame) and a nightstand. That's it. DD has a really pretty bedroom and I want him to feel loved too, LOL.

I'm going to do the living room (just about done) and then focus on each of those little spots that gather junk. All the stair landings, the top of my dryer, bottom shelf of the bookcase in the entry, the guest bathroom, shoe basket, top of freezer and the divinding wall in the dining/living rooms. If I have the time and inclination I'll start on the hall closet.
since i have to take the tree down and set up the new printer/scanner - which means a total declutter/rearrange of the computer armoire UGH- i guess i'm in for the living room

ETA and work my way back into the kitchen/dining room
post #40 of 219
Ok,so I realized that most of my list is cleaning and not decluttering so
I'm going to add my dining room(attached to the living room).Still not my messiest room but I feel like I need to get these rooms under control for my family before I move on to places like the work room(huge mess).
