Spiral crystal from Nova Natural

Does anyone have it? I'm thinking of ordering it for ds2's bedroom, but wouldn't mind having some more information. Is it a good rainbow maker? I can't tell what size the crystal is, only the whole hanger. Thanks!

We have it in our kitchen window (got it for the solstice!). The crystal itself is about 3/4 inch. It makes lots of faint little rainbows, not very vibrant ones. I think the wood surrounding the crystal prevents light from entering on all sides and making really nice rainbows. It is still pretty though and my DS often eats lunch with little rainbows on his tray and face.
For nice rainbows, I have this one on my Christmas list. We haven't celebrated with family yet, so I am really hoping I get it from someone!

we have the sun one and we love it! lots of rainbows

We have that spiral one and it is beautiful, but it has to be hanging JUST RIGHT to get the light to make rainbows through it. When dd wants to see the rainbows, I have to hold it in a good position to get it to work in her south-facing windows. The wood spiral blocks a lot of light. If we had it in an eastern window, though, it would probably be lovely in the morning.

Thanks for the info, mamas! Since it sounds like the spiral one can be tricky, I think I'll order the sun one. berrymama, I'm going to put the one you linked to on my wish list for my living room.

We have this crystal too, and not so much because we get a lot of sun. Just a few hours in the summertime hit us. I bought it because its really just wonderful to look at, even when not reflecting rainbows.

How's this for a coincidence?

We went to an antique store today so that dh could look at tools. Hanging in the window was a moon-shaped crystal prism! Now ds2 will have the sun AND the moon in his room.

operamommy, how are you liking your crystals? I've been looking at the sundancer one and wondering if there's much of a difference between the 63 and 50mm sizes. Which size did you get?

mamavegan, sorry that I didn't see this till now! We got whatever size popped up when you order - I didn't even know there were different options.

I like the sun dancer, but to be honest, we get bigger and more numerous rainbows from the other crystal that I bought. It's in the shape of a moon, and doesn't have a wood cut-out around it. I think that wood blocks some of the light, as pp mentioned.

Thanks operamommy.

I'm thinking about going with the sundancer since it's a larger crystal in hopes that it will make more rainbows, but have you guys seen this etsy shop? Her crystals are gorgeous and I really want one just for the look of it, but I wonder how well one like Alexandra or Roxanne do for rainbows?

We bought crystals from http://www.auroracrystalproducts.com/
I think they have a minimum order requirement, but they have a huge selection.

How did your DH burn the words into the spiral without it leaving the dark, burnt areas that a wood burning tool usually leaves?
To answer that question I'm going to sound a bit dingy because I know so little about it, but here goes...
My dh programs a tool using a computer to carve just about anything onto wood. It is very precise so as long as he can hold a piece still, he can carve on it. That is how he made a finger labyrinth for me, for example.

Oh and counterGOPI - thank you!!

Phoenixrisen, that must be some tool! Your husband does gorgeous work. Do you guys have any crystals hanging in windows? I just wonder if that one is allowed to make any rainbows for you guys.
