Crafty wedding gifts...

I need some help from fellow crafters!

My sister is getting married soon, and while I'm buying a few items from her registry, I'm thinking about making her a few items.

Background: She & her fiancee will be moving into a new apartment right afterwards. Money will be tight for at least the first few months. Other than a few kitchen items, they don't really have much.

Ok, so I pretty much got her a complete baking set (roller, pans, mixing bowls, etc etc). She specifically wants silicone oven mitts, so making those is out.

What else can I make them? I'm thinking about the small thrifty stuff that will help them save money & feel better. Stuff that no one really thinks about getting them since the focus is on the big ticket items, but that would make life not as fun without.

So far I'm thinking of his & her aprons. I can make her's all frilly & stuff, but what can I do to make his 'manly'? He's in IT and super nerdy.

I totally want to give them a lot of stuff. Part of it is because I didn't get much at my wedding, so I had to really scrimp to get the basics (like a colander). Another part is that she's my sister, so I want to go all out!:

What else can I make for them? Oh, and it doesn't have to fit into the baking realm.

Do you know how to knit or crochet? Everyone seems to appreciate dishcloths knit/crocheted from cotton.

The aprons sound like a fantastic idea... could you just get a nerdy pattern? Maybe superheroes or something. DH and DD had matching aprons that are a canvas material that is tye dyed... they are really nice.

Maybe a table runner or a tablecloth? Cloth napkins... placemats....

I am currently altering some kitchen towels so that I can hang them on the oven door because there never seems to be a good place for our towels.

I'll keep thinking

Take care,
El

How about some flannel unpaper towel?

DH's cousin is getting married this summer and I'm thinking of making her a handmade collection of Christmas ornaments. When you are newly married, you realize your first Christmas that you really don't have too many ornaments! I had an ornament shower before I got married, and it was awesome to unwrap those ornaments our first Christmas and think about who had given them to us, etc. I still remember who has given us all the ornaments 9 Christmases later.

I like to papercraft so my ideas are in that realm. When my sister gets married in July I am making her thank you cards, a small album with pictures I take, and a decorated box to store cards and good wishes.

To go along with some of the great ideas mentioned above, how about a basket of "green" kitchen items. You could fill it with homemade and store bought items like: knitted dish cloths, flannel/flour sack towels, lovely homemade soap, a heavy duty spray bottle with homemade cleaner and EO, homemade scented soy candles...I'm sure some of the other creative mama's here can come up with more ideas...You could even use a large stainless steel bowl or colander in place of a basket. Have fun with it!

I have two cousins getting married this summer, so this thread is a great place for gift inspiration!

Wow, both awesome ideas!

Do/will they live near you? You could make them a coupon book for 12 meals delivered to their house.

Other ideas ...

Homemade bath bubbles/salts
Massage oil
A recipe book or file box of your favorite frugal, healthy recipes
