Summary of FAM rules (sympto-thermal)

Pre-ovulation rules:

1) First 5 Days Rule: You are safe the first 5 days of your menstrual cycle if you had an obvious temp shift 12-16 days before.

2) Dry day rule: You are safe to DTD after 6PM if you have been dry all day.

Post ovulation rules:

1) Peak day rule: the last day of fertile mucous is called the peak day (the day before your mucous begins to dry up). You are safe to DTD on the fourth consecutive day after the peak day. If another patch of more fertile mucous appears, start your count over.

2) Temperature shift rule: You are safe the evening of the third consecutive day your temp is above your coverline. If your temp falls at or below the coverline during the 3 day count, begin your count again.

BOTH rules must be satisfied to be considered in your infertile phase.

How to set a coverline:

When you see a temperature shift of at least 0.2 degrees F above the highest of the previous 6 temps, draw a line 0.1 degrees F above that highest temp.

Hmmmmm Do you think you had an opps?
I have had one cycle before that was triphasic and I was not pregnant.

This cycle was really strange for me, I will be glad when it is over and a new one starts.
Between the really long AF last cycle, the midcycle spotting and the really early O it has been an interesting one.

I don't really think so. The last time we dtd was 5 days before O. I know it's possible to get pg from that but I seriously doubt it for me. I also checked my previous O cycle and the temps from that one were triphasic, too.

Happy New Year all! :

Marine wife, mine did that last cycle too, and nearly gave me a heart attack.

Happy New Year everyone!!

Today is the last day of af for me!! It wasn't as bad as last cycle, I'm hoping to start the chloraphyll supplement this cycle and see if it lightens af next time around!!

Can someone explaing what a triphasic chart is???
Marinewife - I wouldn't worry about it if you DTD 5 days before O. Lots of non pregnant charts go triphasic.

Triphasic means that after you get an initial temp shift, you get another one with 3 higher temps around 5-7dpo. It can indicate a pregnancy because your progesterone is increasing. Sometimes it is followed by a dip like a pre O dip. But it most often doesn't mean anything. You can't predict anything with triphasic charts.

Happy New Years ladies : I fell asleep at 10pm First time ever I missed the ball drop.

I got a cross hair today. My chart looks odd for me. My post O temps are normally much higher. I wonder if I didn't actually O since I have all my pre O temps missing. But I got tons of EWCM and a + OPK along with a hard closed cervix 2 days ago. I will give it one more day till I consider it safe.

Hello everyone, just checking in. I actually managed to temp over Christmas vacation, although they might be a bit off because of traveling across time zones and such. It looks like I might be gearing up to ovulate. Yay!

Happy New Year to everyone! I went to bed early too. :yawning: We just got back from traveling last night.

Happy New Year! Please add me to the list I have been CTA since August -

http://www.fertilityfriend.com/home/21137a

I traveled for Christmas and had a wonderful time with my friends and family...until the last couple days when I got the flu! I am on CD5 now though so luckily I didn't miss temping when I could be ovulating. Hopefully being sick won't mess up my cycle...I am still trying to have healthy cycles after being on the pill for six years.

Hope everyone is doing great!

aloha ladies!

CD 14 over here. FF thought i O'd on CD 11, but that's really early for me. i had a really fitful sleep last night and was probably only out for about 2 hours and 45 minutes before my alarm went off so i discarded today's temp, which knocked out my cross hairs. we'll see what happens over the next few days, it's all very odd. i DTD last night and this morning, but with condoms both times so should be no worries there.

Hi everyone! Just checking in on the new thread. This is our first month CTA. My hopes for this new year are to actually ovulate and have a period. And then assuming I will ever be able to get pregnant again for dh to want to stop avoiding!

Still no AF for me. I am on 16 DPO and I haven't even had a sign of AF. I'm getting a bit nervous. I haven't been the greatest at charting since my PPAF two months ago. I'm worried that I have an oops. I don't know for sure when I O'd but I'm only off by a day or two either way. I wasn't great with temping... Ugh, I'm not ready to be pg again!

Do you have a chart we can see? How long is your lp, usually?

I got the triphasic message from Ovusoft but not FF. Ovusoft says, if my temp stays high for 10 days, I should take a test. Is that a rule about triphasic temps, that if the 2nd set of high temps stay there for 10 days it could mean you are pg? I always thought they had to stay up there long enough for your lp to be 18 days.
Marinewife – that is my understanding too. 18 days = test.

Mamaspirit - do you have a chart we can see? I hope you aren’t pregnant.

Cahwilson - Sounds like some good goals.

Angelxxrose – I hope your body gets back to normal soon. The pill can really mess us up for awhile.

I am finding it eerie how my temps are so steady right now. This is so not a typical chart for me.

Poking my head into the new thread. Hi all.

I just noticed my name on the header, I guess I hadn't paid much attention to it before. I've been CTA since my second child's birth (6/07) I think it's 17 cycles total including other cycles prior. For all intents and purposes, those weren't spent actively CTA.
canid, aren't you TTC right now? how typical that your chart goes funny the second you actually want to be pg. (unless i'm mixing people up and that's not you at all, )
I've been lurking more than usual around this thread lately as well, so hello!

Nothing new nor exciting for me going on. These last few cycles sthough, I've really come to terms with the fact that I get nausious just before O and AF and have stayed really level-headed through what is typically a panicky "I wonder if I'm pregnant" time. I love knowing what's going on with my own body.

And if anyone has any suggestions for ridding of nausea at those time, they would be welcomed

I was TTC for one cycle I found out during the 2ww that I will be laid off soon so we went back to TTA and I am going back to school full time in August.

I get that too. I just drink lots of water and eat small snacks. It really makes me panic sometimes even though I know 99.9% that I am not pregnant
