Hi,
I am hoping that someone might be able to help me. My 11-month-old son is an avid nurser, and he is doing something to my nipples that is causing me great pain. I'm not really sure what he is doing. He is not biting, but I think he is somehow scraping his teeth where the nipple meets the breast. There are visible small wounds on my nipple in various stages of healing. Probably 3-4 on each one. Every time he nurses, it is so painful, because he is basically sucking on an open wound! I don't really know how to get him to stop. He is not biting, so unlatching him and making him stop nursing is almost cruel and causes him to sob. I'm using Lansinoh several times a day to try to speed healing, but just as one spot heals, another breaks open. I'm just not sure how to fix this. DS is one of those all night nursers too, so my nipples never really get a decently long period to recover.
DS is probably teething, and he's had a cold followed by an ear infection, and this started when he was sick. He's better now, though, and I would really like to not be in pain when he's nursing! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jennifer
