That's a *darn* good reason for being gone in the morning!

Slightly nosey/OT: Can I ask whether/how you modify your running clothes for modesty's sake? (I'm assuming you and your dh are both Muslim.)

How many calories are in an ounce of plaster dust? :

All my cupboards are full of it. I'm just rinsing pots and dishes as I use them because I'm too stressed/overwhelmed by the mess to otherwise deal. Now I'm in "get through it" mode. I think dh travels in another week, so it's month-to-month for a while.

Penelope, we are both Muslim, and I don't worry too much. I covered for a while but it was a very difficult burden for me. I am not ready to be in that space. I typically run in stuff past the knee, and I wear shirts with some sleeve. I have not run in a tank or just sports bra ever in public, and I have never run in shorts above the knee. That's a lot less than many of my Muslim friends would wear...and that's something I kind of had to establish a balance with, because I personally could easily build a big obstacle out of modesty and let it keep me from pursuing my running goals. I think of God more when I run than almost any other time. Nickarolaberry does a much more complete job with modesty, I think, than I do. Someday I'll get there. Suffice to say my practice is not like a lot of others'.

Ugh. We're invited for dinner tonight. Dh and I both really hate going anywhere Sunday night. We like a quiet night, prepping for the week. When we are invited for dinner, it turns into a late night and a chaotic morning. Ah well...

Saying no is not an option?

Thanks, Jo! I didn't mean to put you on the spot - I was actually thinking about Lisa Ling (I swear, the lady who used to be on the view ) who apparently started wearing very modest running clothes as a rule after being in the Middle East and needing to be careful about her running and her clothes while she was there. She said after a while she just felt much more comfortable when she more covered, wherever she happened to be running.

ITA that it's so hard not to get subsumed in one's obligations/tasks, religious or otherwise, and stop making time to run or do other good self-care.

I'm trying. But I guess we've been sucked in.

Thread Starter
7.2 miles through the neighborhood dodging the slush and puddles. My new shoes are heaven. Evidently my feet really are mini boats.

I was starving again by mile 4. Cake and ice cream when I got home fixed that. I guess we celebrate kerc's birthday around here.

jooj, in our house, if you leave the house without telling the other, you must leave a note taped to the oven.

Hi all! Just waving hello. I should have run outside today; it was really balmy (mid-30's )

Anyone want to start a Feb thread? Can't think of a good title...

We went through that 2 summers ago. I taped off the cupboards in the kitchen (plastic sheeting and duct tape) and cleared everything off the counters before we started. It probably helped some but it took days to finally clean out all the grit. I can still smell the plaster dust. Are you all using mask for the tear out and clean up? Some of that old plaster use to have asbestos in it, or lead in the old paint.

It was 42 here today. Our 20 + inches of snow on the ground is trying to melt.

The mood I'm in today, I might have left it angry for a day or so.

about dh: we talked briefly when he got home from work. I had purchased a new eyeglass fix kit and told him I wasn't trying to start a fight. I later asked if he has had his thyroid checked in any of the labs done this past year. I mentioned that his weight gain, irritability, and sometimes feeling cold when we're all comfortable might be thyroid. And that it can effect other hormones. He has an appointment later next week, but I'll be going in before then to review my current labs. I'm making it a point to talk with the doc first.

fmr: no actual fm, but went to the running shoe store, and bought a new pair of NB shoes. Spent a long time talking with the sales person, explaining injury, pt, my theories on what caused the problem. Tried on several pairs. Most were good, but found one I really feel good in. Plan to run just half a mile on the TM tomorrow and see what happens. Finger crossed.
