Dingos running in the new year! - Page 3

rr~:5 miles! I almost puked twice but it felt great to be out in the sunshine and fresh air. Hoorah to be back to the forward motion! Can't wait to log it as my first official run in my '09 running log.

Almost puked twice!? Well, great job and I'm glad you feel : anyway!

Abby, I think of you often. You can imagine when. This winter, in spite of all the snow, has been much easier on me so far, and we controlled most* of the breeding, so I am hoping for a smoother summer. Welcome back, and I hope you can use running to keep up your strength. You have so much happening!

I feel a little icky, not certain why. Maybe just chilled from being outside for chores. I was in my longies and jeans, and still it's c-c-c-c...well, you know :. But Mr. Picante is home, : so I had to stay out for some extra time and love on my goats. And for some reason, Pokey was also extra affectionate today. And Mr. Picante is home because the sheep are also done xtraining.

*exceptions include one goat and whatever sheep may have gotten themselves in some trouble when I accidentally left the gate unlocked.

Loving the FitDay.

Phew... 3 pages already and it's only January 1st !

I had a wonderful 6 mile (1/2 trail/1/2 road) run with friends this afternoon. On Saturday we're doing our full long run on the trails around Lake Griffy (for those who know Bloomington). It should be lovely. I trail running!

Happy New Year to all Dingo(e)s!

Welcome back Abby (though I wasn't here when you last visited)

I woke up with intestinal distress. That combine with the health club not opening until 1 means I walked one mile with Helen (5) complaining, Linus (1) in the stroller and Charlotte (3) insisting that she lead. What an uninspiring way to start a new training log.

I haven't had time to streamline my goals beyond the everyday thoughts of how I could and should be doing better so first and foremost, I'll say more positive thinking.

1. I have a nebulous goal related to swimming but honestly don't know how to make it happen just yet.
2. Indianapolis Mini in May
3. maintain my consistency regarding diet and exercise. I : that this is a maintain and not a developmental goal this year.
4. For the sake of my marriage I think I need to either 'approve' a vasectomy or come to grips with another pregnancy.

Running with a baby - it has been different after each one. The first time I had him in the jogger and off we ran at 2 months. After dd1, it still felt awful at one year. After baby #5 I made it happen at 9 months but other interests have been set aside due to lack of time and energy. As my mom reminded me today, life is a marathon, not a sprint. :

I am enjoying the bike talk even though it isn't on my list right now.

Good luck with the babysitter, Geo!

Welcome back Abby

I'm off to bed I am freakishly tired (I really hope I'm not getting sick), but I had a lovely day with my babies and ended up using my gc to barnes and nobles to help dd buy the spiderwick series - on top of hers, she also got two scooby doo books - the kid is a freak for scooby doo! I know I'll enjoy reading them to her so that's how I justified it...that it was to me as well since I got to read them too.

4 miles from home to a friend's house for dinner. I listened to David Sedaris on the way, and the trip went quickly. We had a fine evening with a little too much food.

DD wants to go running with me tomorrow (1.5 miles) and then 5 on Saturday. Eeeps. It's been ages since I did 5 miles.

Hollysmom

Way to go on that mileage, Geo!

I am feeling exhausted this evening. I am off to take a shower, grab my book, and go read in bed. I hope the first day of 2009 was great to all of you!

Hi!
I used to run after #2 but I stopped for a lot of reasons. Now, we have a puppy that needs the exercise and I have to drop 30 lbs. I ran a little today with the dogs, but it is sooooo icy and slippery and snowy. WI in the winter is not the place to start running again. I wish I had a treadmill but that is not in the cards right now.

I can't wait to really start in earnest. My goals for 2009 are to:1. do some form of physical activity everyday, even if that is jumping up and down and running around the living room with my kids 2. find a job I don't hate 3. to work harder at my relationship with dh.

Welcome 2009!
Back with goals and such. I closed out my running log for 2008. I'm overall pleased with my running - I ran 862 miles in 2008. In 4 full years of logging every run, that's the farthest I've gone in a year by over 250 miles! I also started a new year by actually running on the first day of the year - a little over 4 miles. December was by far my least active month of the year, only 5 runs total, but I didn't feel too bad running today.

I picked a training plan for the Indy Mini. I'm going to use the Runner's World Smart coach plan. I've used Hal Higdon in the past, and like his plans, but the Runner's World plan looks a little more challenging and has the added advantage of telling me what pace to run. I'm going to start on 1/12 - I can't believe the Mini is only 17 weeks away! Has anyone thought about hotels or anything yet?

Looking back on 2008, I'm fairly satisfied with my year running wise - I ran more than ever, I had a half marathon PR, and I finished a marathon! I'm not too satisfied with some other things, though - including my weight. I've been thin my whole life without thinking about it, and that has led to some pretty rotten eating habits. Also, my stress level has been too high, and definitely needs some work.

With that in mind, some 2009 goals:

Fitness related:

1. Run at least 800 miles
2. Initiate some kind of strength training program (I'd love some suggestions here - I've never really done any strength training of any kind and really need some core strength especially)
3. Complete the Indy Mini and at least one other race of 10 miles or more.

General goals
1. Lose at least 10 lbs. I'm posting my current weight here in public, so I'll have a record of it. On 1/1/09, I weigh 155 lbs. I'm 5'4.5" tall, making my BMI 26, officially out of the normal weight and into the overweight range. I'd like to weigh 140 or less, but will settle for 10 lbs this year if possible.
2. To that end, I am resolving a much healthier diet - at least 5 servings of fruits and veggies a day, more water throughout the day, and limiting junk, especially fast food and the various candy and other junk frequently available at my work.
3. Use my dh's Christmas gift (a monthly day to pamper myself) and include some special time with him in there
4. In 2009, either my practice finds another partner or otherwise the situation improves my work load, OR, at the end of 2009 serious consideration of a big move.

So, there we go. Any goals y'all can help gently or not so gently remind of would be great!

As always, I'm so grateful for all of you Dingos (the English PhD opinion is good enough for me, I don't like the e) and all your support throughout the year. I'm so glad I have you all - you've been a big positive force in my life!

I think I have the race list caught up to here. Let me know if I don't!
So I FINALLY got around to reading last month's Runner's World today and I opened it up, glanced at the picture for the Rave Run and thought..."wait a minute...I know that place!" So cool. It's at Three Sisters open space park, which is one of my favorite places to hike. I've never run there (it's a bit far to drive for a run) but DS and I have hiked there lots of times and it's just gorgeous. I was SO excited to see a place that I know and have been! :

Meanwhile, my nose is freaking running like a river. If it's not one thing, it's another. : At least better to have a runny nose than other runny body parts. :

Ok, serial posting, I know, but I finally signed up for daily mile. Now how the heck do I find all of you???

Welcome new and returning dingoes!

So I'm now officially signed up for the SF marathon! : :

RR: 9.25 deliciously sunny and warm miles today. A funny thing happened mid-run. A Jehovah's Witness tried to stop me and give me her spiel. Seriously lady? I don't have any pockets for that literature you're thrusting at me, and that last hill has me breathing like a rabid dog. Do I really look like I'd be receptive?

Gaye - Most of us are signed up under our same user name as here.

Hmm. Maybe I'm missing something. I've searched user names, I've searched real names, nothing. Keeps coming up as no results found...

I was just doing that too. (and no, I couldn't find anyone yet and was about to post the same thing)

Dr Jen, please add me to the race list for the Platte River Half Marathon on April 5. Thanks!

2008 was ok for me: I ran 307 miles (including and biked/walked/hiked almost 500 miles (496). The running included a 10K, a 5-miler (with DH who only runs once a year, for this...so it was a slow race ) and a 1/2 in August.

Today was beautiful. DH took DD to the park and I decided to go for a run because I was feeling annoyed with both of them. So, there's 3.25 to start the year. :

Checking in for 2009 . . . . First and last post of the year?

From the December thread: I'm also at the point of not knowing how much exercise I can get in with a baby, a job, a house, and a marriage to take care of. It's been interesting to read all your experiences and it gives me a little bit of hope for where I might be when Baby Girl is a bit older.

Happy 2009

Hi Abby! It's good to have you back!

Hollysmom! Good to see you too!

I'm sorry and although it goes against my usual rulesiness re:spelling, I can't abide the 'e'. Dingos for me.

I did 5.8 today and thought of the group run this summer described as all up or all down. There was so little level running it was silly. Finally a peak on Plaza de Dolores (Plaza of Sorrows) I had to walk, it was just kicking my a$$. But, a good way to begin the year nonetheless. Now I have to remember to log it because I want a year total too! :

I have a question for you smart physiotherapist types/more experienced runners: After about 3 miles I get this dead crampy feeling slightly in front of the ball of my foot on the left side. I've tried every lacing combination I can think of but 3 miles in it always starts up and just feels worse and worse until I finish. Also, At about 5 miles I start getting pain on the outside of my other knee, sort of crampy feeling too from about midthigh to just below the knee, like the joint is seizing. Any thoughts? That pain goes away as soon as I stop too. Is this the kind of thing that means "Beef up your quads lady!"?

Have you confirmed your account yet? I didn't get the email initially and couldn't find anyone either then I found the confirmation link in my junk folder and it all opened up.

www.bodyforlife.com The weight training plans are super easy to follow and get into and they take 45 minutes or less, and you start to see results really quickly. I should get back into that myself.

Thanks for the warm welcome back! : Hello to each of you, I won't even try for personals now.

I'm sucking down coffee, trying to eat a banana, and off to the hospital in a few minutes, but hope to get a run in later today. I need it.

Oh, and I aesthetically prefer Dingos, despite the spelling stickler in me. (much like plady )
