Dingos running in the new year! - Page 5

: I have a RR :

I walked on the tm for .15
Then I ran 2, started w/ incline at 2.5, but every .33 lovered it .5 until I was flat. ran at 5.0 to 5.2 mph
then I did intervals for 1 more mile. I did it based on HR, so I'd run at 6.0 until my HR hit my AT, then I'd walk at 4.0 until I recovered to mid zone 1. The intervals ended up being about 2 min each.

Anyay, the whole thing tool about 40 minutes, and I felt great doing it, and I feel good now too.

I'm not sure if I've shared my new fave mid-workout recovery drink. 4oz apple juice, 12 oz water, 1t of expensive sea salt. I love it.

MB, I ran in a skirt today, I'll need to go look at your blog. I'd love to match for the Ptree, and for that one, I'd perfer a tank top... if we end up picking a specific style or whatever.

Beth, . I am so sorry for your loss. We lost someone in our extended community to suicide just before Christmas, and even though it wasn't a close friend it was so perplexing and made us so sad.

All involved are in my prayers.

RR: went to the grocery this morning and just now got off the TM. it allowed me to watch my soap opera that I haven't seen in forever (but you can always pick them right back up ) I find that I run better/faster with no tv though, which is fine. 6 miles in 51 minutes, felt good. push ups now and off to shower.

Happy New Year Dingos!

: Finally subbing (but somehow posted this under old thread and had to go back and delete it... )

Totally missed the end of the Dec thread, but finally back from vacation and settling back in.

We had a great time visiting ILs and I got to visit Geo!!! That was fun, no pics of us this time, but here is one of the kiddos. Nora insisted on "reading" to Geo's DD and DS They ate a bunch of Shanti cookies and ran around and played

We had a good visit with family, but so glad to be back home

Beth - Will be thinking about you!

mamabeth - I'm so sorry.

RM - I : Man vs. Wild, too, mostly just because Bear Grylls is hot.

Cathtoria - Yay! You sound like you feel awesome!

RR: 3 slow TM miles.

mamabeth. What a rough time all around.

CathToria - that sounds like a great run. Congrats! Your recovery drink sounds tasty.

JenLove, you really are doing great at this pregnancy thing. I can't wait to hear how you do in the next few months with delivery and recovery and back to fitness. It really is inspiring to see take such good care of yourself and your little one.

I am so pathetic at regulation pushups but I keep trying. That is how I will get better.

My neighbor asked me to run 10 miles with her tomorrow. I LOVE company on a long run. I love company on any run, for that matter. But 10 miles! We'll have plenty of time to catch up. (Maybe I should reconsider that second glass of wine tonight?)

Sounds like there's some good forward motion going on!

mamabeth-thanks for heads up on the skort! I had a coupon from sierra and they ended up being just over 6.00. Unfortunately, I won't be able to wear them for a few months unless I run inside.

Hoping to report some milage tomorrow.

Jo and towsmama I am impressed with the milage you have planned. I always have to ease back into it. I'm a really baby about adding miles until I get to 6.

Take Care all

Checking in from the road on the way back from NYC. I really love my iPhone!

MamaBeth - I'm so sorry about your friend. This us I've of my biggest fears with my brother. I wish your family and his peace and healing as they sort through this.

Half training. I used Runners World Smart Coach fir my half last year. It was a bit too aggressive for me and I think I over trained (based on how I felt afterwards and how hard recovery was). It also made some pretty crazy runs (10 miles of speedwork) during peak mileage. But if you take it as a template and adjust where needed, it is a good plan. I'm using Hal Higdon's plan, and will start I'm February. I'm having a hernia repaired on Wenesday and will need to recover for a while. I'm a lot more relaxed about this race because I already have one under my belt. I'll work hard on getting my long runs and at least a good midweek run in.

bec- The hal higdon plan looks like a good place to start. Thanks for the input.

Wishing you a speedy recovery from the procedure!

I'm getting more serious about planning and measuring my food before hand. I stuck to my calories today somewhat. I ate 1963, but burned 550 at the gym, so 1410 net. My diet is too high in fat.. my lunch salad was almost 450 calories and 23g fat from 1/4 cup cheese and from 2T of my fave dressing, Annie's Goddess. Then my snack of cheese and then pecans and then full fat ice cream for dessert really makes my fat numbers and % way high. I shoudl have said no to teh ice cream, but my whole family was eating it, adn I hate deprivation. but, for teh 1st time, I measured out 1/2 cup of ice cream.... OMG, so tiny.. and prob 1/3 to 1/2 the size of my usual serving . granted, I usually buy lower fat/cal ice cream.. this was Costco's super rich vanilla.. 18g fat and 270 cal in 1/2 cup. My family sprinkled chocolate on theirs, but I declined (and didn't feel deprived about that)

moving forward with more knowledge from here!!!

Thanks! I sure hope I can do what my mind thinks I can.

I remember tracking my calories after seeing a personal trainer at Gold's and becoming very aware of certain foods that skewed my percentages. I hope it's informative for you, but it doesn't become a burden or obsession either.

Mamabeth--so sorry about your friend.

CathToria--I do switch around my training plans if it fits my schedule better and it doesn't seem to be a problem.

modmom--I'm not doing the Indy Mini, but I just used the Runner's World Smart Coach thing to get me set up for April. I use the "moderate" setting and since my starting mileage is usually low (6-10 miles a week), I get very reasonable training plans. I've used it a couple of times before and haven't had a problem with overtraining.

Another stupid Daily Mile question: how do I find the Naughty Dingoes group? I've looked under MDC, naughty, dingoes (and dingos) and even under "run" and I'm finding nothing. I'm not usually this challenged when it comes to navigating a website, so can you give me a hint, pretty please?

Forward motion: the weather was still good (60 degrees), so I pulled out my bike and put in a quick five miles. I might have gone longer but we wanted to head down to Zoo Lights tonight while the weather was good. It was about 45 by then and just beautiful for walking around.

: I can't figure it out either, for the life of me. Either it has the worst search engine known to man, or it's got some issues...

Glad you enjoyed zoo lights, Lisa. We've had plans to go for each of the last three nights, but with this crud, just haven't felt up for it. And of course, we're running out of time, so that will probably leave us tomorrow with the lovely 30 degree temp drop we're expecting. Oh well...

Does this link work to get you to the Dingo(e)s group page on Daily Mile?

mamabeth - I'm so sorry about your dh's friend. My mom lost 2 brothers to suicide, and I don't think there is any thing harder to grieve. I hope your dh can manage to not feel guilty as well as grieving.

modmom - I meant to tell you before, I ran the Palos Half last year and loved it. I'm running Indy this year (to slumber party with the dingos) or I'd do it again. The race last year was about 1300 runners, and it attracted a really fit crowd just to warn you. I ran a big PR at 2:08:34, and was in the bottom third. The course is out an back on Rt 83, which is closed for the race. I was worried it would be sort of industrial looking, but it's all through forest preserves/prairie type areas and it was peaceful and lovely. The expo was smaller scale than some of the bigger races I've been at, but really nice. There were not the fans of Indy or Chicago, but the volunteers were really nice, there were plenty of aid stations, and the folks out on the course at my pace were really nice. Overall, except for finishing my first marathon, it was the best race of my life!

I had an off day today. I took my little dd swimming, which is not very athletic for me, but does at least count as more activity than watching TV or something. I want to run 4 tomorrow, but I have a client in labor (still early, and I'm still home, but that is unlikely to last) and just now when I called for an update, labor and delivery informed me that another client had called up with contractions just starting to get regular and bloody show. Sigh. So, I'm going to try to sleep now and see how much I get.

I can't figure out Daily mile, either. I found some of you, but couldn't figure out how to "friend" you and I can't find the group. Can someone please give us technologically challenged folks step by step instructions?

I don't think I am qualified to give step by step instructions, because I don't have it "down" enough at this point, but I do know that to friend someone, you go to their profile page (can get to that by clicking on the small square pictures that represent a person's friends) and on the left there will be a button for "Send Message" and below that, "Add as Friend."

Just a quick note before I crash. We made it home. Another successful trip! 14 hours in the car. The kids were amazing. Such road warriors.

2009 goals:
- run 1000 miles this year
- get a PR at the Indi mini
- finally meet some Dingos in person
- get to my goal weight (whatever that may be!)
- run a full marathon
