My turned-two-in-November ds is following in the footsteps of his older brothers and has become a nurse-a-holic. Seriously, if I had to count how many times he nurses during the daytime hours, it would probably be something in the 12-18 range, and he also nurses frequently through the night.
He does not eat a lot of solid food. He's quite picky, and will only eat certain foods, and only at certain times of day (i.e. nothing before noon, but he occasionally eats well at dinner time if it's food that he likes).
I'm beginning to feel frustrated with the frequency of nursing sessions because I can't get anything done. I can't nurse him hands-free in a carrier because my breasts are too large (and need to be supported). I have started trying to hold him off a little bit, offer a banana, offer him something else to drink, especially if he's just nursed within the past 30 minutes. I think he must be hungry, but I can't be the sole provider of his nutrition anymore. It sometimes works, and sometimes he still wants to nurse after he's eaten/had some water.
I'm curious as to what other CLW mamas do; do you ever feel bothered by the frequency of the nursings? When do kids generally start to cut back all on their own?
I did not practice CLW with my twins, and at ds' age they were nightweaned and only nursing probably 6-8 times during the day. I weaned them completely at age 3, but they never really showed any signs of cutting back on their own. I had hoped that things would go differently this time, that ds would naturally outgrow the need to nurse so frequently without my influence. I guess I'm still hoping that that's the case, but already I feel like I'm intervening a bit by distracting/delaying/etc.
I have no interest in weaning or anything drastic, but I would love for my ds to start eating a bit more and cut back to where he's only nursing 1/2 dozen times a day and once or twice in the night (I do want to keep up my supply in preparation for baby #4 who my wife is birthing in June).
Thanks for any support/ideas/advice!
