We are finally having a very belated b-day party for him here. We had one when we were in Iowa for family there already. Dante cries hysterically when people come to the house ( ) So this is not something I am looking forward too. That and all the stuff I may have to return :. He's got a lot of toys, books are always welcome and of course we don't do plastic noisy cr@p, still after a year some people don't get it. I do want to get him a wood kitchen soon though, I think he'll love it.

Absolutely!! I always wanted a penpal when i was younger, but never did it.
ds has strung a couple of signs together on occasion, it always makes my jaw drop too!
We took him in this week to a specialist to discuss his pectus excavatum. The doctor said that since his chest is already sunken this early, that it is very likely we'll need to put a rod in later. They would do the surgery right before he hits puberty. The rod stays in for 3 years and helps push that hole out and push his lower ribs in (I guess they'll start protruding as he grows). He said that the rod may not be necessary, but that most people with pectus excavatum like ds will have some noticeable difficulties with physical activities because of the restrictions on their heart/lungs.
There happened to be a 14 yr old boy there who had just had the rod put in. The doctor asked him and his mom to come in and they showed us the incisions and talked about what it's been like before/after. His mom said that as he was laying in the recovery room, her son said "I can breathe better!"
We'll keep researching alternative treatments. There are many years between now and then, so there may be new and less invasive treatments developed.
