We are finally having a very belated b-day party for him here. We had one when we were in Iowa for family there already. Dante cries hysterically when people come to the house () So this is not something I am looking forward too. That and all the stuff I may have to return :. He's got a lot of toys, books are always welcome and of course we don't do plastic noisy cr@p, still after a year some people don't get it. I do want to get him a wood kitchen soon though, I think he'll love it.

Absolutely!! I always wanted a penpal when i was younger, but never did it.

ds has strung a couple of signs together on occasion, it always makes my jaw drop too!

We took him in this week to a specialist to discuss his pectus excavatum. The doctor said that since his chest is already sunken this early, that it is very likely we'll need to put a rod in later. They would do the surgery right before he hits puberty. The rod stays in for 3 years and helps push that hole out and push his lower ribs in (I guess they'll start protruding as he grows). He said that the rod may not be necessary, but that most people with pectus excavatum like ds will have some noticeable difficulties with physical activities because of the restrictions on their heart/lungs.

There happened to be a 14 yr old boy there who had just had the rod put in. The doctor asked him and his mom to come in and they showed us the incisions and talked about what it's been like before/after. His mom said that as he was laying in the recovery room, her son said "I can breathe better!"

We'll keep researching alternative treatments. There are many years between now and then, so there may be new and less invasive treatments developed.

It's great to read about everyone's babies! P is not yet walking on his own, although I think he's perfectly capable of it, just doesn't want to let go! He has several words including "mama, dada, abba (one of our dogs, but he calls all of them abba), outside, backpack, nap, fish, bye bye, fire, hot." He loves being outside and enjoyed his first snow ever today. Still bfing like a fiend, especially at night. 9 teeth, nearing 30 pounds.

My little guy celebrated Obama Day by sneaking off while his Dad and brother were watching the speech and playing with his brothers precious, beloved Dinosaur toys, which big brother refuses to share. The little opportunist! I'm looking forward to telling him about it if he ever asks.

Is anyone else's babe obsessed with animals? Beyond the fact that Cyrus still doesn't say "mama" but routinely says his word for "puppy," he is just crazy about all animals. If you say "Where's the puppy?" he'll get all excited and look all around until he sees them. He could play with the dogs all day long, and he loves the babysitter's cat. And we were at his grandparents tonight, and all he wanted to do was look at the sheep. He kept on yelling and pointing towards the pen until we took him over to see them.

Yes! Kieran LOVES animals! We have several animal books ("Brown Bear, Brown Bear" & "Moo Moo What Are You" are his favorites) and he already does signs for most and animals sounds for many. His piggy snort is HYSTERICAL! When he baas like a sheep, he sounds like an old car trying to turn over :

We finally gave in and got some fish so he would have something alive in the house. When we go to the pet store he loves the fish section, and we thought that would be easier than a four legged friend. (That's debatable right now, btw .)

Calvin loves animals, too! He can only say kitty and dog and doesn't make any noises yet (we're not teaching them , but kitty was his first discernible word. He still doesn't say mama yet We don't have any animals in the house yet, but will be getting about a dozen day-old baby chicks at the end of February and I'm excited to see what Calvin thinks of them :

That's so exciting! Do you have a coop and using them for eggs/meat? I mentioned getting chickens once and dh quickly shot the idea down. It didn't help that one of my best friends was over who has experience with farm life, she was quick to detail the horror of catching/beheading/plucking them!

We don't have a coop yet, but with seven other outbuildings/barns, I'm sure we'll get it figured out. They need to be inside the house until about April/May anyway because of the cold and snow here. This years batch are our egg layers and then we plan on getting meat birds starting next spring.

How fun! We have done both meat and egg chickens. LOTS of fun!! We could sit out there and watch them for hours! They are such a great experience for kids!

Let me just say that night time weaning, SUCKS!!! After being woken up about 5 times a night to nurse for only a very short time it lead me to believe that he really didn't need to nurse for hunger that it was just the sucking he needed. So last night I didn't let him nurse and he cried and flopped around in bed for 2 hours. Dh was there to help which was really nice and I kept his nursies hidden and it seemed like the out of sight out of mind helps. I wonder if I should just sleep in the other room for a few nights and let dh do the work. Anyone else had or thinking of doing this?

i nightweaned my son julian at around this age - i was newly pregnant with viano. thats exactly how i did it - daddy did all nighttime parenting for a few nights.

Sorry it's so rough! We're night-weaning also, but she's gotten diplomatic about it (it's been about a week now). We cold-turkied and the first night was about fifteen minutes of crying and then waking back up to object throughout the hour. But now she's waking up for water in her sippy cup at 2-3am and then wakes at 6:30 or 7, basically at first light, to nurse. The other night she slept through. It's definitely working, though she still flops over me to burrow and complain when she stirs in the night. I just hold her close and stroke her hair and tell her it's sleepytime. My breathing is key as well, my deep breaths really calm her. Daddy is in bed but doesn't help at all...he's afraid of their lack of a nighttime relationship. This morning she kicked him in the face out of a dead sleep and made his nose bleed.

Liam's still randomly puking... we can't seem to trace it to anything in particular :so I guess an elimination diet is in our near future. Chocolate does seem to be a trigger but he'll often :Puke: without having had anything with chocolate. The allergist scratch tested for gluten, soy, corn, dairy, eggs and peanuts and nothing came up positive so that 's semi helpful. blah.

I am so jealous of all of you having babies! Liam seems so big and toddler-ish these days. He did take a nap in my arms today after throwing up so that was lovely but geez do I miss the squishy newborn stage.

My new g/f (not really new but new as opposed to my ex that I had Liam with that did the disappearing act at 3 months) just proposed! I got a gorgeous peridot ring cuz I'm anti diamond trade and I LOVE it! Yay! We're waiting for another year and a half before actually getting married and then we're probably going to start ttc. sigh. It feels forever away. On the plus side, I get to plan a wedding. woot.

Luci lost another tooth yesterday. Egads.

Oh and night weaning s isn't going too bad!! First night was 2 hrs of being upset, next was 15 mins and last night about 10 but he was really fidgity all night. I'm so thankful my dh is being supportive and helpful. I probably would have given in without him.
