There WAS. The leader moved to Wasilla (I believe) a year or so ago so may not have been able to keep up with it.

that is sad. So many women could benefit from ICAN. How hard is it to start one up? I imagine the time commitment is pretty huge. hm.............

I ran a chapter when I lived in Soldotna, but that was several years ago. Moved to Bethel and kept up the website for a while before I started homeschooling. I wouldn't say the time committment is huge, but for a number of reasons I just couldn't continue any longer.

More recently, there was a chapter in Homer and there was talk of one starting in Anchorage, but I think the person considering it went a different direction and started some kind of birth network.

BirthNetwork instead of ICAN

Yeah, that's me. I chose to start a Birth Network instead of ICAN so we can serve the needs of all moms, not just the VBAC/C-Sec folks. We are a consumer based grassroots non-profit based on the CIMS Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative. One of our projects is to gather a broad membership of providers and to print a free provider guide so moms can easliy find Mother-Friendly (and VBAC friendly!) providers.

I'm going to try to get our webpage up this week. We are a chapter of BirthNetwork National. You can see what we are all about for the meantime at our national website. Please join!!! www.birthnetwork.org

this is great and I will join soon.
Is there a way to incorporate this with ICAN in someway so those ladies looking up Alaska ICAN can find you??

Maybe someone can head up another ICAN chapter here but work with you?
