Couple of Questions about the Facebook stuff

Did Facebook remove photos of nursing moms that did NOT show nipple? The one I've seen on www.abcnews.com of Kelli had hardly any skin showing at all.

Were there many photos (not paintings, sculpture or other art) of nursing moms that showed nipple? I know you all can't say there weren't ANY, but was it common?

(I'm involved in a "conversation" regarding this incident, and I want to get some facts straight before I proceed.)

As you can probably tell, I am not a member of Facebook. Or Myspace. In fact, there are no photos of me on the web at all (that I know of).

Yes.

Absolutely were some photos that showed nipple. There were way too many photos up on the 27th to say how many showed what. The latest Facebook official statement I have seen, however, said that the deciding factor was visible areola. However, I personally know of photos that were removed where no areola was visible and the areola standard ... I mean really.

This site has several pics that were removed.

Thanks for posting the link. Those pics were so sweet. I wish I had taken pics of my kids nursing. I did post a pic of Mary nursing Jesus (that is still up).

I cannot see why Facebook would ban them. I've seen worse out there.

This is so completely ridiculous!

Anyone who looks at those photos and thinks "porn" or "obscene" needs to take a long, deep look inside their own psyche.

My understanding is that what is making Facebook really delete-happy is moreso tandem nursing photos than nipples. They really seem to have a hate-on for tandem nursing

I've posted this

with this caption underneath
"On the left is a bikini photo I found after doing a quick search on facebook. On the right is a breastfeeding mom. One of these is considered obscene by facebook standards. Want to guess which one?"

Kangaroomum, I'd love to see that, but the link is broken.

(I'd REALLY love to see that. I wanted to do that myself, but I don't want to have to join Facebook.)

I found this collection of BFing photos and captions indicating the date each was removed from Facebook very moving. My thanks to whoever is maintaining it.

Google didn't take it down, just a broken link. Thanks for posting those Kangaroomum. That is stunning, really.

That link (even the new one) isn't working for me..

But honestly the whole thing is just crazy. Those photos that were banned were gorgeous and many of them more discreet than the photos I've posted on my Facebook account, which, to the best of my knowledge, are still up.

Here's one!

I really don't understand the reasoning behind the whole nipple/areola embargo. Without those parts of the breast the rest wouldn't work properly, and it's impossible to breastfeed without exposing them, even if only briefly. We shouldn't have to worry about showing the 'wrong part' of our breasts!

Good article about it here http://www.time.com/time/nation/arti...869128,00.html

Meanwhile, men's nipples aren't a problem. Recent photos of President-elect Barack Obama walking shirtless on a beach were greeted with puns about how he is "fit to be President," "buff-bodied" and "chiseled." (See pictures of Presidents at the beach.)

And perhaps the surest sign that "pregnant man" Thomas Beatie has been accepted as a man — even though he still has female sex organs and the ability to deliver a baby — is the fact that his nipples, the same ones he had when he was a woman, are suddenly O.K. to look at. They are acceptable features for the cover of a book, the pages of a magazine —and the profile photos for the Facebook groups supporting him.

Mine are still up. This is crazy, though. Is facebook just removing photos or are they actually deleting accounts over this?

I heard that they were also removing pictures that other members had complained about or marked as "obscene" So maybe that's why some that didn't have any nipple showing were removed? I dunno...it all seems so ridiculous to me. :
