I need an old version of photoshop.

I really want to get an old version of photoshop / imageready 6.0

But all I can find on the web to buy regarding that version are tutorial books. Then I found this site

http://www.brothersoft.com/adobe-photoshop-8464.html

and I see they have a license amount listed, so I am thinking is that how much they paid so that they could allow downloads? The site looks relatively legit, and seeing as that version is nearing probably 10 years old almost, I can see why adobe would allow it for mass download, I dont even thing they sell it anymore. I looked all over their site and its just the new stuff, or elements.

Anyway, do any of you software gurus know if this is ok? Or have any idea how I could get version 6.0 safely and legally?

oh and I just found this article http://www.newswiretoday.com/news/43970/ .... I just really dont want to catch a nasty virus or have to reformat not to mention get buggy, irritating illegal copy thats dangerous. My adventurous days are well behind me.

Try gimp. It's the GNU/open-source version of photoshop. I took a digital photography class working on my projects at school on the newest photoshop and at home on GIMP. Only minor differences, a couple of features I liked better on photoshop, a couple I liked better on GIMP. If they were the same price I'd have trouble deciding, but seeing how GIMP is free.... no contest.

There are two common terms in these new software ownership models, GPL, (general public license) and open source. They usually go hand-in-hand and are often used interchangeably but they have slightly different meanings. One wouldn't expect to buy a car and have the hood sealed shut that only your dealer's mechanic could open, but that's exactly the way most software is sold. With open source, it's an “open hood” to your software's mechanics. With open source, you can sup up the engine, or modify it to your needs. Although there are exceptions, in most cases you can't keep your modifications secret, and you can't profit from them because most open source programs are also GPL. This means the software is free. Not all GPL licenses are open source, and some dictate the licensing nature of the modifications, some do not. This allows programmers from all over the world to work collectively to write and improve software, usually for no profit of their own. With open source, you aren't relying on a team of Microsoft employees, to write it then fix problems. Anytime there's a problem, anyone who owns the software who's a programmer can go in and fix it. It makes for a much more stable program.
The only downside is these programmers don't often take novices into account and don't always make things as user-intuitive as some other programs. But photoshop is already pretty complex, so if you can use it, you can use GIMP.

I always look for a open-source version of software I'd like to have before paying money for stuff.

I use GIMP.

What are you needing the program to be able to do?

I have gimp as well. I had a purchased version of the old photoshop years and years ago, and I have since lost the box and everything for it. I much prefer it, and I have gone through some hard drive changes, deaths and reformatting, repartitioning and I must not have saved something correctly cause now my photoshop is corrupted and wont work. So it is more a matter of wanting to not change and liking what I had been using and not mind paying for or installing exactly what I had.

But Ill survive. Everywhere I do ask I get gimp suggestion, which makes perfect logical sense, I just really want my old photoshop 6.0 back.

thanks for your responses though

and on second thought, brothersoft is only giving the trial version and is based in china so.. I think I am passing on that whole deal anyway hehe
