how do you clean high-end kitchen appliances

most of the instructions on these appliances say to use only special cleaners or you'll ruin them.

we have a ceramic cooktop and stainless steel appliances. are there alternate ways of cleaning these? and, in the dishwasher, do you have to use a "dishwashing detergent" or is there an alternate? the instruction manual warns about using the wrong soap and having suds all over your house.

and, finally, how about granite countertops? i was told you can't use any cleaning product with vinegar in it.

thanks!

For my ceramic range I use a baking soda and water paste. Gentle yet effective and way better budget wise.

I use what I use on my dishes on my granite countertops

Great, thanks! I think you can use this on stainless steel, too.

The Ultimate Cloth is the best for stainless! It works great with no smudges and needs no actual cleaner, so that has always been what we've used.

I use microfiber cloths and after a baking soda or plain hot water wash, I wipe my stainless steel with a cornstarch and water mix - it's great for getting rid of streaks! I also put a little cornstarch in my vinegar/water spray bottle for streak-free window and mirror washing.

Microfiber cloths are great for stainless appliances. Just wet with warm water and use a little elbow grease. No need for yucky special cleansers or wasteful paper towels. Crunchymomofmany, I'd love to hear more about the cornstarch window cleaner......

Regular Dawn type liquid detergent for granite. Then buff to a polish with a clean cloth. You can have it professionally cleaned/sealed once a year - especially if it is a light granite. Don't let dark things (think red wine) or citrus sit on it as both can discolor. I never had trouble with my darker granites but in this house I have a lighter one and I'm pretty good about wiping stuff up right away.

Use dishWASHER stuff for the dishwasher. Powder is best. Not dishWASHING liquid. Very differnt, causes way too many bubbles.

With stainless, clean with the grain and never ever use a scrubby or anything abrasive.
