Reading the Bible in a Year?

Anyone game to have a thread for those of us reading the Bible in a year?

I'm doing the New Testament first, then Old Testament, using this plan - http://www.ewordtoday.com/year/

I am reading the Bible through in a year, but I am using a plan that includes both Old and New as well as a Psalm or Proverb each day.

I'm doing this as well, and my One Year Bible is as described above. I've always wanted to read the entire Bible, and now I feel like I will realistically be able to do it.

Neat thread! I tried last year - but stopped in Leviticus.

I think the Old and New at the same time would be more effective.

I like both at the same time because it helps overcome the difficult places. I have read up till yesterday (today's I will do this evening). So far I have read Psalms 1-3 (one a day), Genesis 1-7 (two a day with an extra thrown in one day), and Matthew 1-5 (one to two a day) (there is sometimes an extra thrown in if the chapter is small). So the OT are two a day and the NT are one-two chapters a day and Psalms and Proverbs are basically one a day unless they are REALLY short, then they are two a day, and for Ps 119, it is broken up into two days since it is REALLY long).

I like that I am only on day four and I have read about Jesus' birth and life all the way up to the sermon on the mount as well as creation, Adam & Eve, Cain & Able, Noah & the Ark ending with the flood.

Talk about getting your feet wet for the new year!

I did do this once as a teenager! It might have taken me the whole year...I don't quite remember. It's high time I did it again. Last year I did start reading the Old Testament, but stopped in Exodus I believe. I did finish the whole New Testament and am reading that again. Just this morning I read the first chapter of Luke.

Ok - I have a plan! I use the NAB, and found a reading schedule to work with that version:

I'm using the checklist.

I tried last year to do the method where you're reading two or three different parts of the Bible a day (as mentioned above), but all the jumping around just annoyed me, because I couldn't focus on just one area. I don't know...I just felt like I wasn't really "getting into it" because I was reading more than one book at once. (I also have a hard time reading more than one fiction book at once, so maybe that's why!! )

I am able to read multiple books at the same time and keep up. I am just weird.

However, the reason my version is broke up into three parts is so you can read three times a day, at breakfast, at lunch, and at supper. By reading before the meal, you get into a routine. And also by reading it regularly, such as reading the OT for breakfast, Ps/Prov for lunch, and NT for supper, it is not as confusing as it would seem.

This is a great idea. I will be looking into the yearly reading plans and choose one this week.

This is similar to what I use, though it is not exactly.

I'm also doing a running outline so that I learn about the order and sequence of things in the Bible and can recall them more easily as the reading goes on. I have memory like a sieve...

I have taken my "Daily Bible Reading" list, on my MP3, and subfoldered it into a "Weekly Bible Reading List" that I am listening to daily (the entire weekly list daily, so I hear it seven times during the week).

This week is Genesis 8-21, Psalms 4-10, & Matthew 6-17.

I love listening to it as well as reading it. I seem to get more out of it if I just sit and absorb it rather than read it, though I like to read as I listen too.

I was just given this link. There are several different plans to read through the Bible. Something for everyone's wishes, perhaps.

Just thought I would check in. I got side tracked yesterday and did not get my reading done, but am going to do yesterday's and today's today.

I have read so much already!

I have read Genesis, through chapter 21; Psalms through chapter 10; and, Matthew through chapter 17.

How is everyone else doing?

Thanks for posting that link, I downloaded the coming home network checklist for reading the daily scripture and catechism reading. Get both done in one year. I see some other Catholics on this thread, anyone want to have a thread discussing daily readings from there?

I am hoping this thread will help hold me accountable!

Because I know I faulter. But I really want to do this regularly.
