What week does baby typically turn and stay head down?

I feel like my baby is all over the place right now!

I assume they get into their head down position quite a bit later (I'm 21 weeks today) but was just wondering when that was?

With dd we discovered she was breech at 34 weeks, which was some cause for alarm. So, I'm assuming its a little while before that... Anybody know what's normal?

How can you tell which way they are? I feel most movement either along my sides or below my bellybutton - is this bad? I hear about people being kicked in the ribs, and I have yet to feel anything like that...

My little bean was head down when I went for my 30wk appt. My midwife said they like to see them head down from around 32ish but I got the impression it was more like 'it's great' rather than 'it's necessary'. I think as long as they are head down when you go into labour its gravy!

I have no idea about position, my midwife told me where he was. I haven't had any kicks in the ribs as my little guy tends to sit low. Lots in the side and bottom of my tum and some in the cervix. Ouch.

Mine was transverse for a while, I was feeling all the movements on either side of my stomach, but at 32 wks she was down. I knew she had turned right before then b/c the movements changed. Now her butt is in my ribs and it's driving me batty!
