Weird baby poo...

I think I'll xpost this in lwab...

My baby is almost nine months old - she pretty much only has bm, but occasionally has avocado (most frequently) and some other fruits and veggies. She has also had a little bit of bread this past week. Dp made ww bread ad I made ww banana muffins and baby had a bit of each. She has had some funky poos since then. Some diarrhea and some normal, but today she had diarrhea twice and the second time it was really gluteny...like stringy and yeasty. Very gross, and bizarre. I had intended to hold off on wheat/grains until one year, but oops. So, I'll try cutting them back out, but my question is - is this a typical sign of wheat sensitivity?

I don't think there is any typical reaction, as different kids will react in different ways, but it sure sounds to me like her body didn't want it. personally, I wouldn't give her any gluten at all for a long time. I personally don't think it's good for babes.

I would not consider offering any gluten grain until age 2 at the very earliest. That is considered to be the time when baby's finally have the enzymes necessary to actually digest gluten. However, there are many alternative providers and knowledgeable parents that are starting to recommend/choose waiting until much later - like age 5. I agree with PP that her body did not like the gluten, and it's because she is simply way too young to handle it (at the least. she could also be intollerant/allergic though.) If she is not reacting to it at all through BM I would just hold off until at least age 2 to give any more directly. Oh...and to answer your actual question - GI symptoms are often the first visible sign to a problem with a food no matter what food. Foods cause different reactions for different people so there is no standard.
