making NB flats from Flannel...

I some double brushed flannel, it's buttery soft and really want to make NB flats with it.. it's thick though, so I don't want to make them too big (as my plan is less bulk for a NB)

I have no Idea what size to make them.. they need to be big enough for the folds, but small enough so they are trim and not super sized down to fit the baby or wrap.

I have some muslin flats, but these are much thinner so therefore work great in bigger sizes.

also, I can snappy the flannel (as in it grips) but will using a snappy cause holes over time?

TIA.

I just made some newborn prefolds out of flannel - I had considered making flats, but they grow out of them so fast, I think.

I took a newborn sized prefold and traced it, leaving enough for turning the fabric inside out. I only did 2 sides (sort of like a pillow?) - I make burp cloths this way too, using a 3rd layer as well - FYI. I made sure it fit inside the cover I would be using. For my DD we used early on the pro-wraps and liked them because they required no snappi - just folded diaper like a pad. Later on I would use a snappi and dappi pants - but she was crawling at this point and I worried about things working their way out.

I found that that this worked best for us.
yes, I found that the pins or snappis did leave holes after a while, but, the flatfolds I was using were mine as a baby, and before that, my mom's and uncle's. And had been used on many cousins and also my brother. So they had seen lots of little butts. You could even see where my mom cut up really bad ones and patched them, and I did some of that. (no sense buying new!).
