WOW! That is so awesome! Were those cabinets and open cubbies there, did you put them there, is it custom built in? That is awesome. And you have that huge open space at the end, looks like fun!

They are IKEA. The cabinets with doors are EFFECTIV, we bought them ages ago for a kitchen in another house that had very few cabinets, but a big blank wall, but we don't need them in this house for that, so they became toy storage. And the open ones are IKEA too, can't remember the name, but I found some white sterilite open containers at walmart that fit perfectly and were much cheaper than the IKEA ones that fit the shelves, plus my kids would have destroyed the IKEA ones instantly. I love it because there is room for all their toys and still plenty of empty space.

It's a basement, its L shaped sort of (the stairs are around the corner to the left), the empty space at the end now has our old sectional couch in there. Of course, it doesn't look anything like this now, its covered in toys everywhere. I love having the playroom in the basement, because the toys tend to stay there, but I also tend to get to that last in my cleaning since I can ignore it LOL

i just came to the conclusion that i am going to put one of our Ikea in the boy's bedroom. they dont sleep in there. the only thing that is there is a chest of drawers and a futon. i think dividing things between teh play area downstairs and the bedroom (for lack of a better term for the boys' room) will make it easier for play (and living) around here.

i tell you...this is on my mind ALOT. it just has to get better! lol!

It definitely needs some organization. There are 2 closets and a dresser in there that dh and I use so I can't use those for toy organizing.

Alyantavid, glad to see someone else with as many toys as we have. Can you get a few taller bookcases so that more toys are off the floor? That might make it seem more organized.

Pretty much everything has been done on a very limited budget. I like it OK, but it still doesn't have quite the cozy feel that I want and I'm not sure how to get there.

Dd's have put up almost everything on the walls themselves.

WOW, I LOVE those windows!! What a bright and sunny room that must be!! It does make it difficult for shelf placement, but those windows are just so awesome! Is that a separate room or part of your LR?

BTW, I can't believe you got your kitchen for $10!!!!!

Thanks!! It is coming along now. I painted green and white for the wainscotting (sp?) and it looks ok so far. Great idea on the ikea in the boys room. I think that will work great. THat way when you are upstairs there is an option for play as well and a place to organize it.

WOW!! Love the windows and the fact that you did it on a budget. We are doing this as cheap as possible. Where did you find that kitchen fro $10!!

i think that is a great room. what wonderful windows. we used to have windows like that when we lived in boston..i miss them.

can you add color to the room? that would make it look cozier. and maybe add some large pillows to the mattress to make a cozier reading nook. maybe some curtains (pulled back of course, not blocking those windows) from pretty sheets you can find in a thrift store). Ryansmom knows how to do curtains out of sheets..im going to get her to teach me soon.

me too! no ideas though.. maybe a wool rug of some kind? i have a large white one from ikea that i love. i got it on half price, for $50 and its withstood a LOT and is still in great shape. i wish i had bought 2!
