Moving to Paris

We'll be moving to Paris from the Netherlands in January. My family of five will be together for the first couple of weeks, but from the February-vacation on we'll start the new thing: My husband will go out to work, my four year old to school (he speaks neither French nor English, poor thing) and my two youngest and me will be home. I'm both looking forward to this and dreading this whole new life. I will quit my job, refresh my Highschool French and find some new balance.

Sooo, I guess I am looking for a new tribe!

We will be moving to the 16th, close to the bois de Boulogne. My French is very rusty but I would like to pick it up. My 2,5 yr old still nurses, I am planning on going back to CD, we bedshare with the whole family, I carry my baby. It sounds pretty AP and I hope I am, but in the Netherlands I found it hard to find people that do the stuff we do, but without home-schooling or complete gentle discipline (I confess, I lose my temper now and then and I use time out. Don't worry, I tend to dream vividly about how that will get back at me in the long ). I visited the LLL-meetings here but never felt "good enough", do you know what I mean? It seems hard to find people that think of themselves as mainstream, but bf for a long time and bedshare or co-sleep and feel guilty as I do for giving the youngest a pacifier... That are concerned about our planet and then loose themselves for buying that really nice outfit, not second hand nor organic. Or ouch, eat something completely not eco- or animalfriendly. But be generally so happy about life, living, the family! Anyone catching my drift?

I read somebody telling about the LLL-meetings: could you tell me more about the atmosphere? And anyone else from Paris that reads a click here? I really hope so.

Hi and welcome to Paris! I just moved here not that long ago myself from Lyon, France. There's a great english speaking mothers club here in Paris called Message that is worth it to get involved they have lots of activities and playgroups. I also know there are LLL meetings in english here to but haven't been to one yet.
And don't worry about being perfect 100% AP and organic. You're obviously doing your part, doing what you can, and what works best for you, and that does make a difference. =)

Hi Autumnfairy!

Thanks for your happy and sweet reply! I applied to Message right away, great tip!

And I quit my job today, wow, that feels odd. Nice, too:.

Ready to go!

For me, Message (MSG = Mother Support Group) is VERY mainstream - not my thing, but has some good resources, LLL has a very strong english speaking group and no-one is ever not good enough for us - we will welcome you with open arms, It is a very international group with many french, english, american, scottish, lebanese, polish, russian, german, spanish, israeli and many more taking part in our meetings, I have the meeting schedules for LLL Paris English Group we do monthly Baby and Toddler Groups, Parenting Workshops, Carrying Workshops and have an extra enrichment meeting on Baby Signing in March, may I just state that LLL does not require you to co-sleep, eat organic, tandem nurse, CD or anything else these are all personal choices - I'm sorry you felt that way with the group near you, that is completely NOT the goal of LLL - LLL is a Breastfeeding Support Group, Mothering through Breastfeeding although albeit it does attract more of that sort of person, but EVERYONE is welcome and no one should ever feel not good enough - I am very disappointed that a group made you feel that way, if you or anyone else would like the meeting schedule please email me and I'll send it on to you and look forward to welcoming you to one of our meetings.

I'd be interested in that LLL meeting schedule and the workshops!
Could you post a schedule or let me know where to find it?
Thanks!

This may be a bit late.....

Hi there,

I have also recently moved to Paris from Dublin with my husband and two daughters aged 4 and 23months. I actually used to live in the Hague also from 2001 until 2006. We share a family bed, bf my youngest and babywore full time until last summer now we use a buggy a bit more. We live in the 17th near park Monceau. I would love to know if you have found any toddler groups or a LLL group for international moms. My french is very rusty but I would really like to improve that also.

Best wishes

Ciara
