Which one, Kozy or Ergo or another?

What is best for a 5' 2'' mom to wear? My back needs lots of support and I need something easy. It seems I might be more comfortable with buckles, but not if it is not as supportive. It seems the Ergo is more $$ too, but if it is better it will be worth it. Just trying to find an easy match for me with little learning curve and I need all hands free without worrying about baby.

Thanks, Julie

Beco! You can still find a few 4th generations pretty cheap.

I'm 5'11" and I have both a Kozy and an Ergo. I love them both, but I think the Ergo is more what you're looking for based on the info you've provided. I'd suggest trying the Ergo and Beco at a store before buying. I did and for me there was no comparison - the Ergo was so much more comfortable.

you may have trouble being so petite and getting an SSC like an Ergo to tighten enough. i am 5'4" and have a pretty long torso, and still most SSC's i cinch down the shoulder straps pretty much as tight as they will go. i don't have an Ergo, but i'd be surprised if it was much different than the 4 or so other varieties of SSC i've used.

a Kozy would certainly work since you don't have the limitations of the buckles, but some petite mamas find the Kozy too big. i love my Kozy, personally, but thought i'd mention that as a possible issue.

is there a babywearing group near you, or someone you know that would let you try theirs? you may also want to do a thread search over at thebabywearer - i know there was a discussion not too long ago about SSC's for petite mamas with lots of feedback and recommendations.

Unfortunately, I don't know any babywearers. Where would I try oneof these on? I have only seen the Ergo online.I will try to find that threadabout petite mamas .

I have back troubles and LOVED my Ergo. : It was really easy to learn to use and I was able to keep using it until dc was 3 (a tall and heavy 3). It also held up really well to 3 years of daily use. I also had a Kangaroo carrier for the very beginning of babyhood and really loved it as well. That one only worked until about age 1 before my back began to hurt when wearing it. Good luck deciding - it's hard with so many different and wonderful choices.

I vote Freehand. The Ergo is often too big on a petite mom, the Kozy would work, but I think that a Freehand MT is the best on a small mom.

you should check in your Tribal Area here at MDC and also in the Babywearers Near You section over at thebabywearer.com to see if there are any mamas near where you live that have any carriers you could try. it's nice to hook up with like-minded mamas anyway, carriers to try or not

Yes! This can save you a lot of money and trouble.

Another buckle carrier I didn't see mentioned yet is the Calyx. It comes in a Petite size.

I'm 5'2...and have both an Ergo and an AngelPack...I LOVE the AngelPack but find the Ergo to be a PITA to adjust.

I have both an ergo and a kozy and I find them both useful for different situations.

I am like 5'8" though, so I don't know the challenges of being a petite mama.

I will say that Kelley (kozy creator) is awesome to work with on customizing the Kozy. She offered to customize the strap-length more me when I bought my first one. And as for length of the kozy body, it's easy to fold it up.

The kozy is so very soft. No hard places anywhere to dig into mama-chubbs. It is my favorite carrier, bar none.

But, my ergo is what I needed when my babies were too little to assist me in getting them on my back...since I could never figure out how to do that with my kozy.

HTH,

i have a kozy and i'm 5'2". it's very comfortable, easy to bundle up when you aren't wearing it. but the biggest plus...dh and i can both use it and we don't have buckles and straps to adjust between uses. it's custom every time. he's 6'1", so that's a big deal for us since we split usage about 50/50.
