DD1 (now 27 months) was Pitocin induced. From nothing to baby in under 2 hours.
DD2 was FASTER, though all natural!
Around 12:30 Friday afternoon my water broke, we were headed to a midwife's appointment anyways, and it's more or less on the way to the hospital I would deliver at. So we ran in, she hooked up the monitors just to see what she could see that way. Contrax were intense after only 10 minutes, 3-5 minutes apart. I had been dilating for a month, walking around at 4-5 cms and 100% for over a week already.
She told us we could go home, or go to the hospital, that she had patients until 2:30 but she'd gladly blow them off. Her office is 5 minutes from the hospital. She said they'd call ahead and let them know we were coming.
So we decided to go to the hospital. Went up to the L&D ward, they started asking admission questions, and I couldn't answer, the cx were so strong and close together. But I was up and walking. Once they heard my name, they just ushered me into a room, since I have a history of fast labors and was already so dilated. Hooked up a EFM (of course! Sigh) but I refused an IV or hep lock with no problem. DH was trying to be oh-so-helpful telling me when a cx started by looking at the monitor. "Trust me, I don't need a damned machine to tell me that!" I growled.
They checked me, baby was coming fast. I was having intense cx very quickly. They called the midwife. A minute later, the EFM said baby's heartbeat was deceling, and the nurse wanted me to get on my side. "I can't! I have to push!" they checked, and sure enough, baby's head was crowning. Somewhere in there, I remember saying that I was pooping. Apparently that was about the only thing I did quietly, I didn't even poop, but telling them about the rectal pressure I practically whispered.
2 cx later, baby was born into the hands of some random doctor I've never seen before. Pretty sad about that. Water broke at 12:30, cx start at 12:40-ish, baby was born at 1:48 p.m.
Midwife runs in a minute later, stitches up a couple small tears (one rectal. Yuck and ouch) and attends the placenta delivery. Apologizing profusely the whole time.
Avery Paige, born 01.02.09 at 1:48 p.m., 6 pounds, 12 ounces, 18 inches long with a full head of fine, dark hair. Looks just like her big sister!
Thank goodness my 27 mo was already spending the day at Grandmas, otherwise I'd have ended up having this baby on the highway!
