What can I do to help my 1yr old?

DS2 (almost 2) has fully retracted himself. He's been working on it for a while, but last night he pulled the last part back and it seems to have peeled a layer of skin off his glands. I can see the left over skin balled up and still attached to the glands. I am hoping that will clear on its own in a day or two. It was red last night, but not this morning.

BUT, it really hurts him as soon as he pees. He cries and all I have been doing is offering him a cup of water to soak his penis in afterwords. Any suggestions?

(DS1 (4yr)has been very curious as he has not retracted himself yet. I tell him he may or may not retract until he is older. No hurries.)

THanks.

My son had a premature separation and the urine was painful on the raw surface for about 3-4 days. Just give him a couple days. He probably pulled an area loose a little sooner than it should have been. Just give him nice soaks in warm water. He will be feeling better in a couple days, I promise! Tell him to leave it alone for now until it feels better. This is nothing to worry about but it can be a bit uncomfortable for your ds.

You might want to offer him a cup or bowl of water to pee in...The water will dilute the urine and it might not sting as much.

Thanks for the info. He is still in diapers during the day, but maybe he will start using the toilet today....I'll offer the water in a cup to pee in.

Three to four days seems so long to have painful peeing, but at least I will not be too worried that the healing is so long.

Thanks again.
